John McCain has famously admitted to a "lack of knowledge" about economics. So when he talks about the economy later today in Ohio, it appears he will deploy the language of a policy area he does feel confident on: the surge in Iraq.

According to remarks prepared for delivery and sent out to reporters Wednesday morning, McCain will call for an "economic Surge to keep jobs here at home and create new ones."

Is the campaign in danger of relying too much on the power of Surge branding? Or has America's economic landscape actually become a battlefield?

The full excerpts sent by McCain's campaign follow below:

"It's time to get America's economy moving again. Companies like Merillat and families across Ohio face challenges in their business and around the kitchen table. Our energy prices are too high. We are losing jobs. Our housing market is in decline. The cost of everything is going up, and in the face of this, Washington is on vacation.

"Now is the time for action. We need an "all of the above" plan to address our energy crisis with alternative energy, drilling and nuclear power. We need to crack down on those who have abused our credit market and caused this housing decline. And we need to take action to support American businesses so that we stop jobs from going overseas and create more jobs here at home.

"America has the second highest business tax rate in the entire world. It is any wonder that jobs are moving overseas when we are taxing them out of the country? Unfortunately Senator Obama's plans would raise taxes on businesses even more. He has promised tax increases on income, tax increases on investment, tax increases on small businesses. This is exactly the wrong strategy. Raising taxes in a bad economy is about the worst thing you could do because it will kill even more jobs when what we need are policies that create jobs.

"What we need today is an Economic Surge to keep jobs here at home and create new ones. We need to reduce the tax burden on businesses that choose to make their home in the U.S. We need to open new markets to U.S. products. We need to reduce the cost of healthcare. And we need to end the out of control spending in Washington that is putting our debt on the backs of our children.

"Now is the time for action, and when I am President, we are going to get it done."

"Economic Surge" - what does that even mean? We're gonna bring the troops home and station them in banks?!

"Blah blah blah... SURGE!!! Blah blah blah... SURGE!"

Okay, give me some specifics old grumpy white haired guy......

You can talk around it all you want and say Surge, surge surge..... what is your "surge"???

You going to send in troops to the big oil companies and make them play fair at gunpoint?

If we really want to embrace a market economy then get rid of all the subsidies that we are STILL giving Big Oil and let them compete against themselves..... it's time we stopped propping up companies who are raping us every day and then laughing as they count their obscene profits.....

Brilliant ideas like this come naturally to John McCain unlike Obama who needs a teleprompter and surrogates to tell him what to say.

Good show, there. By all means distract us from any substance that might go on in this election.

Mc.Cain does not speak for the Mc.Cain campaign. Remember that quote, eggonyourface? You really want to get into a debate on who has more substantive policies vs. who is slinging childish smears and serves as a puppet for his surrogates? If so, you're even dumber than I thought...

To paraphrase Joe Biden on Rudy Guiliani, "the surge…the surge…an adjective…the surge…the surge…a noun." "The surge" is McCain's "911."

Fix the problem, not the blame. "Getting it done" is a good goal to strive for. I don't think you will find many people who disagree on the goals outlined by the candidates - fixing the economy, ending US dependence on foreign energy resources, or mending relationships abroad. The question is not "what is the goal" the question that no one is answering is "how do we get it done?" Hopefully the campaign will get off the blame game and get onto some real solutions before long.

Sixteen years of tax cuts (8 under Reagan, 8 under Bush) have not created any significant number of jobs at home; quite the opposite, we have fueled the expansion of the world economy by sending our jobs overseas. Tax cuts equating to job creation is a fallacy.
The only significant growth in jobs in the U.S. over the twenty eight years has been under the Clinton Administration (when taxes were raised).

And while I'm at it, once again, 70% of the total U.S. deficit was accrued under Reagan and George Bush. The deficit went down under Clinton's administration.

The only way that cutting taxes will create jobs at home is when our labor rates are ultimately less than labor rates in the rest of the world's labor market, i.e., when WE become the third world country.

You want jobs created at home? Restructure the tax code so corporations get tax incentives for creating and maintaining jobs here. Don't allow companies that don't pay their fair share of U.S. taxes to sell in the U.S.

Why would we even consider giving these dunderheads a third chance to screw us again?

Maybe he will buy us off like Obama. Do I hear $1,001 in tax rebate....how about $1,002....

Or maybe do absolutely nothing but help the "have and have-mores" like Bush has done for the last 8 years. And starting another Trillion dollar war would be good too.

I don't know much about the economy; as a 5 from bottom for graduating class; never having to even balance a checkbook; I doubt that this guy can do anything. However, I am sure the oilslicks he typically hangs with know exactly how to screw us.

So I presume he will cancel NAFTA, CAFTA, what-ever-afta, increase tariffs on imported goods - all that would bring jobs home, and then END the war/occupation in Iraq, which is being paid for by the unborn children of America.

It's time to have some fun with McCain and strike back against his campaign of images and ignorance.

However, images matter......
