MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Morgan Freeman was discharged Thursday from a Tennessee hospital after the Oscar-winning actor was treated for broken bones and other injuries sustained in a weekend car crash in Mississippi.

Kathy Stringer, a spokeswoman for the Regional Medical Center, said Freeman was discharged but gave no other details.

The 71-year-old actor was hospitalized after the accident Sunday left him with a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage.

Demaris Meyer, 48, of Memphis, a passenger in the car driven by Freeman, was also injured in the crash.

"Access Hollywood" reported Wednesday that Freeman's lawyer, Bill Luckett, said Freeman and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, had been separated since December and are getting a divorce. Luckett was also quoted in several newspapers Thursday, but did not give further details.

There was no answer Thursday at phone numbers for Luckett or for Freeman's publicist, Donna Lee.

No divorce papers have been filed in Tallahatchie County where Freeman owns a home with Colley-Lee, according to Tallahatchie County Chancery Clerk Anita Mullen Greenwood.

Has anyone said it yet?

Morgan Freeman was just "driving Miss Demaris."

But seriously, I hope both of them are recovering from their accident.

(continuing) -- Fourth, why these assumptions?: (a) He dumped his wife (perhaps she initiated the separation); (b) He's a jerk, dog, whatever (should people who no longer love each other, who no longer want to be married, who cannot make the marriage work, force themselves on each other?); (c) the mariage failed (the second way to perceive this -- the marriage was a success for as long as it was a success); (d) the "Younger Woman Syndrome" (older men and women have a right to be with whomever makes them happy as long as there is no underage dipping going on); (e) that Demaris is the other woman (do we, readers, public, know this?). Okay, I've said my piece.

First, being the private person that Morgan Freeman seems to be (never appears as a news item in the Hollywood gossip rags), it's quite plausible that there were separation and divorce plans that never made it to the public. If it weren't for this accident, perhaps we would not have known about divorce plans until the plans had become the divorce, period. Second, I respect Morgan Freeman's body of work, but I have no disappointment in this news because I don't have an emotional investment in his life. Why? Because I don't know him personally. From many of the posts here, one would think that these posters were members of his circle of friends, family, acquaintances. Third, in addition to speculation, which is fine, there is a lot of projection and judgment going on here, which is not fine, in my opinion. It seems that human beings love to project the worst of their lives, of their experiences, onto others.

Hold on people. You people with the negative comments. Did you not comprehend that Morgan and his wife have ben seperated since December. He was not with his wife and although he is not divorced there is no law that say you cannot see someone else because you are seperated. He was not cheating. What is wrong with being 71 and dating a 48 year old. I am a 61 year old woman who looks like she is 45. I like to date younger men also. Men that are sixty act too old for me. I like men who has get up and go not act like their get up and go left. So I guess Morgan want someone younger also for his age. Nothing wrong with it.

That's awful. I'm sorry for his injuries, but he's just another cheating mate. Yeah, we know they were getting divorced; well they sure are now!
He's an old man with a much younger woman, surprise, surprise.

Morgan and his wife have been separated for almost a year. What evidence do you have that he was cheating? Oh that's right, none! In fact, it's just as possible that she was cheating on him! But that doesn't really matter to a dumb, bitter person like you, does it? Your husband is a lucky man indeed.
