Morgan Freeman Announces Divorce After Car Wreck With Lady Friend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Morgan Freeman was discharged Thursday from a Tennessee hospital after the Oscar-winning actor was treated for broken bones and other injuries sustained in a weekend car crash in Mississippi.

Kathy Stringer, a spokeswoman for the Regional Medical Center, said Freeman was discharged but gave no other details.

The 71-year-old actor was hospitalized after the accident Sunday left him with a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage.

Demaris Meyer, 48, of Memphis, a passenger in the car driven by Freeman, was also injured in the crash.

"Access Hollywood" reported Wednesday that Freeman's lawyer, Bill Luckett, said Freeman and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, had been separated since December and are getting a divorce. Luckett was also quoted in several newspapers Thursday, but did not give further details.

There was no answer Thursday at phone numbers for Luckett or for Freeman's publicist, Donna Lee.

No divorce papers have been filed in Tallahatchie County where Freeman owns a home with Colley-Lee, according to Tallahatchie County Chancery Clerk Anita Mullen Greenwood.

It's always interesting when people assume ONE person in a marriage is responsible for the breakup...I find that often women who marry very famous men are not prepared for how much he is away from home, nor how little they play a part in their husband's career. It leaves wives feeling like a third wheel. And if the actor has a lot of female staff...and he doesn't have to be fooling around with them...yet far to often they know more about what he's doing than the wife does. They keep his schedule, and run interference for him. Morgan has a production company as well as working as a full-time actor. Many actors have to keep themselves in tip top shape to work and the wives often let themselves go a bit. And they hop over to Hollywood to a red carpet event and all they see are these cute young things with no wrinkles and no body fat. I think its tough on the wives, but it is also tough on the husband, who has a life, but has to make a life for his partner... No one person is the reason a marriage breaks...besides Morgan has two children from previous relationships and two children from his previous marriage. There was some evidence that this guy likes women...but he did hang in there for 23 years and I have no doubt his wife will be well taken care of...
