Yesterday, John McCain tried to reclaim his maverick title in an ad -- going so far as to say he was the original of the species. Today Barack Obama shoots back with an ad that quotes McCain agreeing with President Bush and ends with a picture of the two together.

"The original maverick? Or just more of the same?" the ad concludes. Watch it:

Transcript:

MCCAIN AD: He's the original maverick.

SILENT SUPER:
Really?

MCCAIN:

The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time...

VO:

John McCain supports Bush's tax cuts for millionaires, but nothing for a hundred million households.

He's for billions in new oil company giveaways, while gas prices soar.

And for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

The original maverick?

Or just more of the same?

I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.

I don't understand this because when asked by Bloomberg's Peter Cook on April 17 if Americans would say they are better off today than before George Bush took office more than seven years ago, McCain replied: "I think if you look at the overall record and millions of jobs have been created, et cetera, et cetera, you could make an argument that there's been great progress economically over that period of time". Is it Alzheimer’s or did he forget what he said on April 17th?

Tell me just one thing McCain has done for the average Joe Sixpack? Just one?

THE PERFECT AD. This is the message that beats McCain. Run it everywhere, every day.

You idiots remember, of course, who originally labeled him as a maverick in the first place...It was your far left leaning liberal MSM talking heads!

The truth is, he used to be somewhat of a maverick. That's all out the window now though. He's tarnished his own brand so badly the maverick label is just laughable.

I think he learned what it takes to win an election back in 2000. Unfortunately, that means running a dishonest, childish campaign. I only hope Americans are smart enough to see it for what it is this time.

Stop beating that dead horse!

"Liberal MSM talking heads" is so-o-o-o 80s.

Still waiting for Reagan to rise from the grave and lead you to the apocalypse?

Hold your breath, please.

I love it when an attack ad isn't attacking so mch as educating. Obama needs to do these ads more and more as Mac crazies over the money big oil is throwing at him to shrill for them. Maverick was a TV show way back when Mac wasn't paying attention and Mac has bucked the GOP a few times but he has betrayed the vets and troops and for sure women while in Congress so his record should be on MSM and standing where he has voted or not bothered to even show up to vote!!!

Obama needs to keep hitting them hard. He can't let these clowns control his own narrative!!

Very good ad. It's too bad that the GOP think that they can out manuver Obama. Well, just wait until after the conventions. I truly believe Obama is going to come out swinging with everthing he has.

Any one that would make fun of bombing Iran by singing a song (Bomb, Bomb, Bomb.... Bomb Iran) is unfit to be president. I only wish the 44% of people being polled as voting for McSame would wake up to that fact.

You're right on target. Let the people and soldiers die and make a freaken song out of it and be running for highest office. How awful is that?

Go after him on his $25 tire gauges, too, all the while focusing on the NASCAR recommendations. Call it a Public Service Announcement. And there has to be a "family values" ad somewhere in the footage of Miss Buff Chip.

Very Very good ad pound him hard on this people will see yes while he may have been a maveric in times past he has relinquish that title by offering americans the same failed Bush policies, The fact it is McCain 's own words makes it a powerful ad. More of these and McCain is finished !!!!!

About freakin time Obama!

While this kind of advertising is puerile and has no place in solving America's problems, there is a very large segment of the population (including my 90 year old father) who don't dig any deeper into the issues than these sound bites.

Very effective ad. McCain has a whole library of quotes he has said that can be devastating to him. They need to keep using them until the day of the election.
