Obama Ad: McCain's No "Original Maverick"

Yesterday, John McCain tried to reclaim his maverick title in an ad -- going so far as to say he was the original of the species. Today Barack Obama shoots back with an ad that quotes McCain agreeing with President Bush and ends with a picture of the two together.

"The original maverick? Or just more of the same?" the ad concludes. Watch it:

John McCain supports Bush's tax cuts for millionaires, but nothing for a hundred million households.

He's for billions in new oil company giveaways, while gas prices soar.

And for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

The original maverick?

Or just more of the same?

I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.

I don't think he want silly ads, he has a sense of humor when he's stumping. I like the all business ads staying on issues and not demeaning his opponent. Shows class.

I would add that in the attack as well. Keep hitting this dude on the economy. It won’t be long before he has another meltdown.

There are soo many REAL issues to attack McSame on, that it shouldn't be hard to be negative without ever stooping to the low, personal attacks like they do.
Pleeeez O camp, stay tough, punch and never leave offense. You can do this and still be the CHANGE agent, so long as you keep it on the issues.

I think M*Cain has a self perception problem. He sees himself as a young, brash maverick, handsome and hot and a bit racy. The rest of us see an intemperate frail old man, politically corrupt, mentally slow to the point of stammering confusion, lacking innovation or the ability to think on his feet or adjust his thinking. He's a bore. He's not some cute young flyboy thrilling the girls with his Navy whites. I think he's just plain jealous of his rival.

In fact, Obama would nver use a title to describe himself like that, but as I stated in anearlier post, if anyone watched the old tv show Maverick as a kid, Obama, who I understand also happens to play a smart hand or two of poke, going back to his college days, is more early James Garner as Bret Maverick than McSame is. ( I can't vouch for the old James Garner who always sounded a bit jaded.)

Actually, I respect and understand why he is using the name, because I think that's what this election is all about. He is ironically (mabye even distastefully) pointing out the undertones of O's campaign and why he is not higher in the polls. O is by far the obvious best candidate but the half of the nation that seems to be voting for McC probably view O in just the light the name depicts.

That name typifies what this election is all about and why O is not destroying McC in the polls.

True. He should reserve truly hard punches to his VP. Biden would be ideal for that role. That guy can deliver hard lines.

Obama has to exercise restraint at all times––must avoid angry young black man stereotype. He could not be seen beating too hard on an older white woman who could be his mama (Hilary) and how much beating would go over the line with McCain. Everything must be calibrated carefully, unfortunately.
