Obama Ad: McCain's No "Original Maverick"

Yesterday, John McCain tried to reclaim his maverick title in an ad -- going so far as to say he was the original of the species. Today Barack Obama shoots back with an ad that quotes McCain agreeing with President Bush and ends with a picture of the two together.

"The original maverick? Or just more of the same?" the ad concludes. Watch it:

The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time...

John McCain supports Bush's tax cuts for millionaires, but nothing for a hundred million households.

He's for billions in new oil company giveaways, while gas prices soar.

And for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

The original maverick?

Or just more of the same?

I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.

He can be Ruthless if he needs to be. He doesnt like to do it but if he has to HE WILL!!!

And the beauty of it is that he's just saying it "like it is". There's not a bit of untruth, lie, or baseless smear to this ad...or for any of O's ads for that matter. The "truth", in this case, is harsh. But the reality is harsh, and I'm a firm believer that O should continue with his advertising along these lines. Essentially, he's just educating the public about the truth of the situation confronting us. God knows that we can't depend upon the MSM to enlighten us. I hope that he continues to hit hard and hit hard often. M'cCain and the R'epublicans certainly deserve it and it would help him to win the election.

It is not ruthless to tell the truth about your opponent. The ad is great and, unlike Mccain's, it is honest, hence not ruthless.

Ruthless means without pity or compassion. McCain is trying to redefine himself as a maverick this ad TORE down that description without pity or compassion. It has nothing to do with the truth the fact that its true just make it more powerful.

Yes! This is more like it. I would still love to see something with a little more punch, but this is a great start. JMac has said so much bs, that O should be able to use his own words against him for the rest of the summer and fall.

Not sure what you are referring to. At least in Obama's case, his ad is based on actual clips and therefore is true. McCain's ads are cheap shots. There is nothing wrong with Obama hitting McCain hard with his incompetence and voting record. So in McCain's campaign it certainly is politics as usual. In Obama's, he still takes the high road. He just demonstrates he is a fighter as well. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, that's exactly what we need.

As a Viet-Nam veteran, I used to think that John Mccain was a war hero from a bygone era.

Now I understand that he is just a cranky old curmudgeon who is often confused by the facts on virtually every subject.

This man is dangerous and should never be turned loose with the nuclear attack option. He says, ” I know how to win wars.” Which one, and when?

He makes George Bush look like the Dalai Lama.
