Pitchfork Media:

Days after Rage Against the Machine's Lollapalooza set threatened to become a riot, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune's website has reported [via Rolling Stone's Rock & Roll Daily] that the band will play Minneapolis' Target Center on September 3. Making this show more than just another tour date is the fact that it's happening during the Republican National Convention, which will take place in the Twin Cities from September 1-4:

So here's what we've got: a "revolutionary" band whose most recent show at a mostly peaceful music festival incited the crowd to violence, causing many injuries to concertgoers in the process, playing a show in the same city and at the same time as a huge event celebrating the political party most opposed to that band's message. (Not to mention the fact that the last time Rage played a party convention, things didn't go so well.)

In honor of one of the few politically relevant rock bands today:

"We need a movement with a quickness
You are the witness of change
And to counteract
We gotta take the power back"

"To expose and close the doors on those who try
To strangle and mangle the truth
'Cause the circle of hatred continues unless we react
We gotta take the power back"

Let the Batlle of Minneapolis begin....

When did RATM get back together. I thought they broke up a few years ago.

RATM does not advocate random violence. Many of their so called "fans" don't get the message and they are the ones who cause all the problems at shows. There will be no call for violence from this band, just a damn good show.

Marvelous ...

Pastoral lyrics ... soothing melodies ... loving message ...

A venue near the GOP Convention is the perfect place for Rage Against the Machine!

Tickets on sale Saturday, this is something I'll be attending since I missed them the last time they were here about 8 years ago.

I hope they don't try and get political however, always lame when you goto hear music and get preached to.

The republicans will counteract - they'll have Toby Keith sing his new lynching song at the convention.
03:08 PM on 08/06/2008
And the Rage against the Machine will ride over there on painted ponies and take his scalp!

Oh my gwad!

Rage Against the Machine in the twin cities the same time as the Republican convention?

I smell a vast left wing conspiracy!

Gee - I smell an opportunity for both 1) GOP dirty tricks and 2) ultra-left protests.

That's a recipe for "bad Obama stew" if I ever heard one.

Oh I totally agree.
I hate the thought of this. My idea is to shun the Republicans, not wave bloody shirts thier way.
I plan on hunkering down by the lakes and hopefully not get pepper sprayed...or worse.

Violence will simply feed the devil. He eats it in any form. Even righteous.

It will not be our kind starting trouble. It will be people like YOU, posing as us. Just like before - people made mostly of hate.
