NEW YORK — Cosmetics giant L'Oreal is denying it lightened Beyonce's skin tone in an ad.

"We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L'Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles' features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color," the Paris-based company said in a statement sent to the Associated Press through the singer's representative.

The ad is in the current edition of Elle magazine.

L'Oreal, the maker of Garnier hair care and Lancome cosmetics, is the world's largest cosmetics maker.

A representative for Beyonce said the singer would have no comment beyond L'Oreal's statement.

Beyonce has been a spokeswoman for L'Oréal since 2001.

Well, and there are people who don't want to drink any water, because God Forbid, our planet be further imperiled. Of course, there are extreme reactions to most any quaqmire. Skin color racism, is probably one of the least understood, most overrated phenomenons in our time. Racism, is based on a lot of variables. Skin color is but one of them. But in fact, Beyonce in straight hair, weakens previously cultivated and hardcoded color lines. Refreshing!

have you read Barack Obama's Dreams of My Father? Did you read what he says about seeing an image of a black man who was completely disfigured after using toxic skin bleaching cream in a magzine when he was 10 years old? L'Oreal is still push the same racism to sale cosmetics.. Do not talk about what this topic means to black people if you have no idea what images such as this one can do to countless little black girls. If you are not here as a PR spinner for the industry, read these links and then tell the readers of this forum selling whiteness commodity cannot destroy lives

Racisim has lessened for all minorities. And the extent to which it will become even less for some still trapped in a cycle of poverty and social despair is a controllable variable. But, fretting over the skin tones and reading "racism" into the utterly surreal world of Glamour and Fashion, will not alleviate the pain for one single person.. Substantive inquirites into what makes Ethnic Group (a) successrul, white too many in Ethnic Group (b) are left behind, is what will help to change the dynamics of economic racism. That and a life plan.

How do I know majority of posters are white? Because no matter how shockingly racist and for skin whitening is, these poster rush to whites's tanning practices!

Really, white folks, you can do better than this!

ALL ads are retouched- actors, models, actresses do not look in real life like they do in photo ops... I don't think this was done purposely to make her look "white" We all know Beyonce!

Not sure if they altered anything...maybe it's the lighting or something. In any case, she doesn't look like a typical black woman. Her features, her hair, etc... are nothing like anything I've naturally seen on most black women unless they were mixed race or had fake attachments (hair extensions etc...). Although, according to wiki her dad is black and mother is creole.

Here' s a hint for you, if you don't like skin whitening products, don't buy them. While you are at it why not picket all the tanning salons and places that sell products that make white people look darker.

McCain’ use of skin bleaching creams make a perfect sense. He is old and is using these products to remove the signs of aging[age spots, hyper-pigmentation, wrinkles, sun spots, liver spots, etc]. That is why white people are the leading the consumption of the emerging whiteness cosmetics!.
But there is darker, sad side to this industry. Please read this links.

what year is this? who cares! white people lay in the sun to change their skin color to look black/brown, have perms to obtain curly hair, Boxtox for full lips! Nobody questions this. Leave my Beyonce alone! Double standard at play. Nobody questions a white person who has obviously darkened their skin.

For twenty years I evaluated photographers shots of fashion models, lots of bras and panty shots, and some afro american models looked darker in some shots than others shots , it wasn't planned by any art director but just how the lighting and background effected thier look. Around 2000 the ethnic look was in and some models did accentuate thier ethnic qualities.
So I say "SO!"

John McCain has also recently has his skin lightened up to a whiter shade of bleached white creame.
