The ground is so hot in one part of Southern California it can melt the shoes right off your feet.

An unexplained "thermal anomaly" caused a patch of land in Ventura County, just north of Los Angeles, to reach a temperature of over 800 degrees on Friday, baffling experts who have been monitoring the area for weeks.

The anomaly was discovered after the land got so hot that it started a brush fire and burned three acres last month.

It may be a Coal Seam Fire burning in Ventura if so it will burn for many years, decades..!

It could also be magma but that's less likely...

Look up Google Coal Seam Fires...there's much to learn of this phenomenon..

Here we were worried about Kahlifornia cracking off the continent and falling into the Pacific, when all the while we should have been concerned that it would vaporize itself in a plume of spontaneous combustion.

Who knew?

It would be interesting to read an authoritative report on this phenomenon.

Go get the movie "Volcano" with Tommy Lee Jones. Strangely similar.

Not a volcano.

I used to work in the oil fields up in Sespe Canyon. Lot of natural tar seeps up there and the best guess is that somehow this caught fire and is burning underground.

It'll probably just burn itself out.

wait a minute...,
i just read the full story
it's coming from Fox Propaganda
i don't trust anything from them
they're an editorial channel trying to pretend to be real news
if they were honest about it and said we're not news, we're commentary..., then i wouldn't have as much a problem with them

but Fox Propaganda is so tabloid
that's where this bizzare story comes from

maybe Fox Propaganda wants to show that God is mad at us for not burning enough of our own oil, so he's going to punish us by setting brush fires in all our blue states

Or maybe the original source is the Ventura County Star (http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/aug/06/a-burning-question-scientists-puzzle-over-source/), so Faux News doesn't need to do anything more than they already do - take the facts that others work hard to uncover, and then spin those facts in a xenophobic, homophobic, bigoted, racist, God-squad family friendly way.

they should have put a pot of water and a portable electric generator over that hot spot
as long as mother nature is going to be kind enough to provide a "free" source of heat...,
we may as well take advantage of it

'An unexplained "thermal anomaly"', huh? that's easy to explain! there must be a rogue pocket of co2 hanging right over that spot there, like duh!

It's a Republican graveyard. As they decompose their bodies let go of millions of cubic yards of hot air.

IOW IOW IOW. You made me click on a link that goes to Fixed Noise. Now my computer is dirty. I'm going to have to clean it.

Hhhmm the old burning hydrocarbons excuses. Even though there is a town in Pennsylvaina that has had a coal mine fire for decades, I think they should check for lava, because if an eruption is coming they'd better start planning now.
