So is John McCain a maverick who can elicit praise from across the aisle, or isn't he?

The Arizona Republican's campaign put out a web-ad this morning that featured past encomiums from several high-profile Democrats. The DNC wasted no time assembling their response ... using the same Democrats as McCain's campaign.

The DNC's response piece is a skillful mimic of McCain's ad -- straight down to the loping, country slide guitar boogie rhythm on the soundtrack.

Sens. Joe Biden, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, former Sen. Tom Daschle, and DNC Chairman Howard Dean all offer up-to-date evaluations of McCain, summed up by the ad's first two titles: "John McCain ... Maverick No More."

But where McCain's ad used Hillary Clinton's praise as the coup de grace, Democrats are giving President George W. Bush the closing honors.

After a title card reads "Let's Let President Bush Have The Final Say," the president proclaims:

"It's been my honor to welcome my friend John McCain as the nominee of the Republican Party. I wish you all the best. I'm proud to be your friend."

TEXT: John McCain ...Maverick No More.

Senator Joe Biden: "But stylistically and substantively, there is no daylight between George Bush and John McCain. They are joined at the hip."

Senator John Kerry: "John McCain has changed in profound and fundamental ways that I find personally really surprising, and frankly upsetting. He is not the John McCain as a senator who defined himself quote as a 'maverick' though questionable. This is a different John McCain."

Senator Tom Daschle: "On Iraq, on the economy, on tax policy, on domestic policy, across the board. He is espousing the Bush policies. He's changed a lot since 2001."

Senator Hillary Clinton: "But in the end, after eight devastating years under President Bush, Senator McCain is simply offering four years more."

DNC Chairman Howard Dean: "You know, the John McCain of 2000 wouldn't' vote for this John McCain. We don't need another four years of George Bush. What he's proposing is four more years of George Bush's economic policy and its ridiculous and its unfair the American people."

TEXT: Let's Let President Bush Have the Final Say

President Bush: "Its been my honor to welcome my friend John McCain as the nominee of the Republican Party... I wish you all the best. I'm proud to be your friend."

TEXT: We Can't Afford Another Four Years of the Same Old Politics.

All this add shows is that Democrats are Flip - Floppers? How is that supposed to help the Democrats again?

Provide a link, or support how the 'Democratic' politicians are 'flip-floppers'.

I think that the tortured logic is that some democrats had good things to say about McCain in the past and some democrats now have bad things to say about McCain.

Looks like a simple-minded rhetorical game. Democrats are a block, all thinking the same. McCain has not changed his position on anything in the period between when the comments were made.

I would say to ignore CubanPete, but some people might believe him, making your challenge the correct course.

3. The Cuba embargo
In January 2004, Obama said flatly that it was time "to end the embargo with Cuba," because it had "utterly failed in the effort to overthrow Castro." Speaking to a Cuban-American audience in Miami in August 2007, he said he would not "take off the embargo" as president because it was "an important inducement for change."

4. Illegal immigration
In a March 2004 questionnaire, Obama was asked if the government should "crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants." He replied "Oppose." In a televised debate on January 31, he said that "we do have to crack down on those employers that are taking advantage of the situation."

1. Special Interests
Back in January, the Obama campaign described union contributions to the Clinton and Edwards campaign as "special interest" money. He changed his tune as he went after union endorsements himself. He now refers respectfully to unions as the representatives of "working people" and says he is "thrilled" by their support.

2. Public Financing
Obama replied "yes" in September 2007 when asked if he would agree to public financing of the presidential election if his GOP opponent did the same. His spokesman now says that he never gave such a pledge, and Obama himself has attached several conditions, including regulating spending by outside groups.

5. Decriminalization of Marijuana
While running for the U.S. Senate in January 2004, Obama told Illinois college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use. In the October 30, 2007 presidential debate, he joined other Democratic candidates in opposing the decriminalization of marijuana.

"Mc'Cain has CHANGED"

Only in the minds of the wimpy waffling Democrat politicians in the video. They were all against John McCain before they were for John McCain. And hey, I am just telling you what my friends and I first thought when we saw this "parody". It made the DNC looks stupid and childish and unable to see that this "response" from them only strengthens John McCain. So I say to the Dems...Yeah, buy up alot of air time and air this one, will ya! McCain will LOVE you! He can save his money and do a nice "waffle house" ad.

Pointing out that someone who you used to admire has become a flip-flopper makes you a flip-flopper? Hell, with that degree of critical thinking, maybe you should toss your tinfoil hat into the McCain Vice Presidential ring.

Oh, so you support Clintons decision to go to war before and now she is against it? So that was never a sticky point with you in the primaries, Wright? ROFLMAO at the irony!

It was OK.
But it was FOR DEMOCRATS.

I would like to see an ad of Neocon Republicans praising McSame for his closeness to Bush.

And I like the McCain's You Tube Problem - type ads the best.
No mudslinging or innuendo, just McCain flip-flopping.

PROBELM IS:

HE IS A WASHINGTON INSIDER for over 26 years With "NOTHING" Meaning Full To Show for it!

SO HE IS CAUGHT IN A TRAP LIKE A RAT!

Base on his voting record for 26 years in Washington the American Veteran Association give him a grade of 25% on his votes supporting issues relating to veterans. They give Obama a grade of 80%!!

are you people crazy. what does it matter what politicians say during a campaign. don't you get it. any and every DEM is going to praise the DEM nominee and bash the REP one. so this ad is just lame and worse because it shows the DEM's now willing to go back on what they earlier said.

i wonder if that's why they don't have one of Feingold (one of the most honorable DEMS) going back on his praise of McC.

A lot of Democrats are capable of evolving their thinking as circumstances evolve, you mean? Gladly, we don't cling to statements or beliefs that have long been proven inaccurate, since we arecapable of independent and objective thought.

Now that's more like it. We need to push the media to ask the question, "Would the John McCain of 2000 vote for the John McCain of 2008?" The assumption has been that the public knows all about John McCain so there's no need to really examine the man and his positions the way there is a need to put Barack Obama under the magnifying glass. Let's take a media holiday from examining who Obama is and put the focus on who John McCain 2008 has become.

What we've learned from George W. is that the way in which a candidate runs his campaign is the way he'll govern. "W" approved the disgraceful Swiftboat smears against John Kerry and continued to govern in that same distrustful fashion. John McCain is signaling his willingness, too, to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Damn the facts. Follow the money. Where are blue collar workers getting the thousands of dollars that they've been contributing to his campaign? He is so self-righteous about staying in the public finance system, yet his campaign is breaking all the rules to bring in the money.

This election should not be all about Barack Obama. It should also be about McCain's qualifications to lead. Take a good look at the man, not just the myth.
