MSNBC:

He is the baby-faced everyman caught in a Kafkaesque nightmare of credit score woes. A troubadour of the American masses, his songs reflect the far-reaching effects of the housing crisis, predatory lending, skyrocketing gas prices and the economic downturn -- or maybe he's just one in former John McCain advisor Phil Gramm's nation of "whiners" suffering a "mental depression."

He's the FreeCreditReport.com guy, and you are so totally in love with him you want to have like, 10 million of his babies. Or you hate his guts and if you never see him or his stupid drummer and bass player again it'll be too soon.

I have Commercials Immunity. I see commercials all day, but I don't buy nothing. I only buy the things I didn't see in a commercial.

This campaign is the most vile, despicable garbage ever to hit the airwaves. Period. The sick sadistic cockroaches that conceived cast and produced this hate-inducing spittle should be run the hell out of town and banned. I thought the "Head-On" and "Iv'e been everywhere, man" spots could not be outdone for sheer knee-jerk rage but these a--holes take the cake.

The whole purpose of advertising is to draw attention to your product or in this case, web site.

Having catchy jingles and cute actors in them really helps.

Then there is the "free" publicity that they get from sites like HuffPo or news outlets that draw attention to them for whatever reason.

I especially like the ditty where he sings that he'd basically settle for a house & dog vs. a wife with lousy credit. Brilliant.

P.S. Anyone with half a brain would realize the teaser aspect of this "free" service. The average American has abdicated so much to the nanny state that he's lost all common sense when it comes to business transactions. Caveat emptor!

So many people are so upset with this company but have no real reason. They complain that they thought they would be getting a free credit report. They did. They also signed up for a monthly credit monitoring service. This is made plain on page one. In a special box highlighted in blue set up just for this with a title of Important Information in the middle of the screen it explains that there will be a monthly charge unless there is cancellation within the first 7 days. They even explain that there is another way to get a free credit report because of the government law and provide a link to that website. What more do they need to do? Why is it the companies fault that people didn't read the information labled Important? Perhaps people should pay attention to what they are doing and not blithly hand out their personal information.

Thank G*d!

I was hoping we wouldn't see a day go by without the faithful defenders of predatory Capitalism preemptively white-washing corporate abuses and immoral/illegal activities.

You are a loyal and driven operative. I sure hope the oligarchy pays you well.

God Speed, right-winger!

Just so we are clear it is the companies fault that people don't read the information they freely make available? It's on page one, in the middle of the screen, highlighted in blue, labeled important. Even in the instance that someone signs up for the service and then finds out they will be charged they have a week to cancel and not pay anything. What more should the company do? Some people shouldn't be allowed to use a computer unsupervised. They need someone to hold their hand the entire time to make sure those evil capitalist don't sell them something that they sign up for.

You are entitled to a free credit report once a year from each of the three major credit reporting agencies, but not from this company. Check the web sites of the Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. Another example of "gotcha capitalism" at its worst.

Buddha laughs at credit reports. It's the opinion of a fake person, a corporation, about a real flesh and blood human. You really can't take it too seriously. You die as poor as you are born. You leave with exactly what you brought into the world. Good credit, bad credit, who cares?

Are you a decent person?

Get a little perspective instead of worshiping that all mighty dollar and you might end up with an unexpected benefit.

Happiness.

Christ is down with Buddah on this issue. There's a reason He threw the MoneyChangers from the Temple.

Peace.

Somewhere between being born and dying, some people want to buy something that costs more than they have on their pocket.

Why can't you both be right?

The commercial is cute, but this company stinks.

My spouse signed us up for a "Free" credit report for us.
We got billed a few weeks later for each one.
No where was she told she was signing up for something she had to cancel.
We're not the only ones. I saw a news item about this too and when she called the credit card company they have been receiving tons of calls on this.
They have your credit card information for the credit report so you don't realize that's what they'll do and with a name like "FREECREDITREPORT.COM" is it reasonable to expect it would have been free?
At first when I heard about this happening I thought how could that happen? Now I realize it can happen quite easily. I would not recommend using this company!

It's called DeRegulation of Financial Industries & Free Market principles in action.
