Mccain

Yesterday, the New York Times published an article on questionable McCain donations bundled by Florida businessman Harry Sargeant III. At the bottom of the article, one of the unusually generous donors explains his feelings on the candidate:

Faisal Abdullah, a Palestinian immigrant who works as a director of operations of a window treatment company, identified himself in an interview as the driver behind the McCain donations from his relatives and friends. He sent them to Mr. Abu Naba'a, whom Mr. Abdullah described as an acquaintance. ...

He told his friends and relatives that the contributions were tax-deductible, something he later seemed surprised to learn from a reporter was not true. Many in his circle appear to have little affection for Mr. McCain but said they gave mostly as a favor to Mr. Abdullah.

Abdullah Makhlouf, the owner of a discount stereo store who is one of Mr. Abdullah's closest friends, and his wife contributed $9,200.

"He's like a worse copy than Bush," Mr. Makhlouf said of Mr. McCain.

When a reporter initially contacted Mr. Makhlouf, he denied giving to the McCain campaign.

After eventually admitting to the donation, Mr. Makhlouf added, "I'm still not going to vote for him."

TPM adds that Sargeant and Naba'a are being sued for allegedly defrauding a Jordanian business partner out of profits from a U.S. military contract -- a deal that's being investigated by Rep. Henry Waxman.

Iraqis: Deal close on plan for US troops to leave Iraqis: Deal close on plan for US troops to leave

By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 42 minutes ago

BAGHDAD - Two Iraqi officials say the U.S. and Iraq are close to a deal under which all American combat troops would leave by October 2010 with remaining U.S. forces gone about three years later.
A U.S. official in Washington acknowledges progress has been made on the timelines for a U.S. departure but offered no firm date. Another U.S. official strongly suggested the 2010 date may be too ambitious.
A timetable is part of a security agreement being negotiated by U.S. and Iraqi officials. Both sides stress the deal is not final and could fall apart over the issue of legal immunity for American troops.
One of the U.S. officials said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had a long and "very difficult" telephone conversation Wednesday in which she pressed the Iraqi leader for more flexibility, particularly on immunity.

Friends, Americans, Countrymen! I come not to praise McCane, but to bury him. He brought about his own demise, revealing to our Country and to the world the desperate farce and impostor that he is. America is indeed grateful for the great contributions of this noble war hero, who so bravely paved the way for us all to finally wake up and never repeat the errors of the past in electing an incompetent man to the highest office of the United States. We paid a dear price, and will be paying for it for years to come. Your children will be paying, and their children. Yet, we thank you John McCain and Cindy for waking us up and remind us not to repeat the errors of our past. We thank you John McCain for making it possible for Republicans, independents, and uncommitted citizens to make the right choice and elect Senator Obama as our next President. We thank you John McCain for assisting us in getting our youth enthused and motivated to get involved and give America a President to be proud of, one who will elevate the status of America, and instill hope and pride in each citizen..young and old.
I ask all citizens of the incredible Country to hang a flag in their front yards, and to join the neighbors they never met yet...in shouting...YES WE CAN! YES, WE DID IT! OBAMA 08! Thank you John McCain!

That was very entertaining. You might be celebrating too soon though.

Mc Cain and his undesirable cohorts at it again.

God! please have mercy on America if Mc. Cain is elected president.

Talk about Bush being bad, then with Mc. Cain, we would wish Bush were still president.

I just want to know how is it that this money can be collected and channelled as reported. How is that folks are able to spend that amount of money on something they are not interested in and how prevalent is this practice? Is this legal what on earth is going on ? Answers please. I know this is a free speech country and at the same time something doesn't quite smell right.

Based on what I've read thus far...
I believe that this story would have multiple FBI agents on it by now in the normal scheme of things. Whether this isn't happening because of internal partisan corruption of the FBI, this isn't happening because of orders from above, this isn't happening because noone there has noticed yet, or this is currently happening without our knowledge... is unknown.

So far, all we've heard are incredibly suspicious press reports based on required public records. It would appear that the press will imply all they want, but won't call a "smoking gun" until they get someone to admit they were bribed into political donations.

Please explain to me why these donors would give money to a campaign/candidate whom they don't support! It must be nice to have about $10,000 to blow!

It couldn't be that donations are being made by unwilling donors because of strong-arm tactics. Or could it? Sounds like a movie plot but something is not logical here and these people obviously don't have money to blow. Would you willingly give to someone you wouldn't vote for?

I've got to read up on campaign contribution law. I know you can donate $2,300 each but a couple donates almost $10,000 to McCain? What? To the GOP? That seems like a pretty big loophole.

No. There seems to be a HUGE loophole that you can donate big amounts--way beyond the $4600--to PACs or to the RNC directly, right?

Like that working class couple who donated $51,000 yesterday.

What's the loophole?

Are these Palestinian donors members of Hamas or Hezbollah? Is McCan't's campaign financed by "turrorists"? Just asking folks, just asking.
