Mccain

Yesterday, the New York Times published an article on questionable McCain donations bundled by Florida businessman Harry Sargeant III. At the bottom of the article, one of the unusually generous donors explains his feelings on the candidate:

Faisal Abdullah, a Palestinian immigrant who works as a director of operations of a window treatment company, identified himself in an interview as the driver behind the McCain donations from his relatives and friends. He sent them to Mr. Abu Naba'a, whom Mr. Abdullah described as an acquaintance. ...

He told his friends and relatives that the contributions were tax-deductible, something he later seemed surprised to learn from a reporter was not true. Many in his circle appear to have little affection for Mr. McCain but said they gave mostly as a favor to Mr. Abdullah.

Abdullah Makhlouf, the owner of a discount stereo store who is one of Mr. Abdullah's closest friends, and his wife contributed $9,200.

"He's like a worse copy than Bush," Mr. Makhlouf said of Mr. McCain.

When a reporter initially contacted Mr. Makhlouf, he denied giving to the McCain campaign.

After eventually admitting to the donation, Mr. Makhlouf added, "I'm still not going to vote for him."

TPM adds that Sargeant and Naba'a are being sued for allegedly defrauding a Jordanian business partner out of profits from a U.S. military contract -- a deal that's being investigated by Rep. Henry Waxman.

If every voter read Jane Mayer's book , The Dark Side, very few people would vote for a republican. It is very very scary to learn how this administration dealt with the constitution and the Geneva convention. Imagine that Canada has put the USA of their rouge nation list. And now you will know why we will not join the ICC International Criminal Court. If nothing else read the Amazon reviews of this book

I usually don't correct anyone's spelling or grammar, but I think your image of the USA as a "rouge nation" is a great malaprop. We have had red states. Now we have a "rouge nation."

There should be an investigation into whether these people are being improperly reimbursed for these "donations" and also whether they are being intimidated or coerced into giving money to John McCain.

If I was a terrorist, I'd be very tempted to donate to the McCain campaign. A very strong case can be made on the objective facts that George Bush has done more to further terrorist causes than any other president in history. Why wouldn't you want to put a Bush clone like McCain in the White House to keep feeding the flames for four more years?

We're supposed to be civil and be an example to the world (of opressed) by the way we live and behave. Yet, actions of our government has not been much different than what terrorists have been criticized for (tortures, massacre of innocent, etc.). This has given the Islamic facists a free pass in the world of public opinion that "anything goes".
(Meanwhile , we've the nerves to criticize Chinese government for their Human Right violations. When our own government officials admit to the kangaroo courts in Guantanamo

I'd love to wag my finger and get all moralistic, but I'm Canadian, and our government hasn't been a shining beacon of freedom lately, either. I think when your president finally laughs and walks away from the mess he made, Prime Minister Harper is going to pathetically slink around 24 Sussex Drive with one of Bush's old socks in his mouth.

The support of each other when the party is respected or an elder is a large part of the culture in many countries. The explination does not surprise me and also make a great deal of sense considering the society these people belong to. No matter who they give to, their honor is to be commended if you ask me.

McCain is so very scary and he has the blueprint from Bush he will use and expand upon into further disaster and yet the masses don't get it. Just like Bush jr did Mac is using fear and rove like tactics along with the basic fears people have of changes and distrust of someone "not like them" as Mac likes to say to push his racist messages. All one has to do is to see how the money changed hands for the oil companies message when McCain started the oil companies chant "drill, drill, drill offshore". All of the variatins point straight back to 1.3 plus million dollars Mac got from the oil people and the GOP is stepping goose step right along with him. he oil companies have extensive leases they have reused to drill in. We as the share of the world with fuel have around only 3% available to us so what would benefit us to drill as we will pay for the drilling not the oil companies. Just like our blood and job losses have been paid for by the big oil companies.

I don't know if he is worse or better. But atleast you have some kind of understanding where BO stands. I am in the process of still making my mind up and the only thing I know about the Mac is that he does not believe Obama would be a good leader. Which I am thinking as opponent isn't that what you are suppose to say. But I would like to hear what he wants too do.

Palestinian cannot think that McCain will do anything to the benefit of his people so why is he giving? Is he under threat of deportations? Why would the guy say that he does not like the little yet give up near 10k. This does not pass the smell test... something illegal is going on for sure.

For all the people that say if this were Obama, you are enjoying a vicarious experience of being a minority in America.

at the risk of being terribly un-PC, in most middle eastern countries one is always greasing the skids and passing off a little cash under the table. They probably thought this was something similar. They don't like McC, but the money donated could be considered a business expense.

Okay, I'm tired and confused, so my comprehension may not be very sharp this morning. Why did this person contribute to a candidate he neither likes, nor plan to vote for?

This is a serious question, can someone dumb down the answer for me?

Political money laundering? (i.e. big donors pay people to take the corporate money and then give it to McCain's campaign through 'small donation bundlers' like Harry Sergeant III.)

This McCain donation bundling (as others we've been reading about) has "corruption" written all over it. I hope the NYTs pursues it further.

Because his friend, Abdullah, asked him to. Abdullah now owes him a favor. That is what he was paying for, the favor. He didn't care what it was for (McCain).

Answer...........Election Fraud!!

The Federal Election Commission has maximum contribution limitations so the Repuglicans/Lobbyists/Corporate Thugs sidestep that by passing money to people that have no interest in the campaign and most times, don't even know that they are being used for political purposes.

It's illegal and I hope they are caught and this campaign is SHUT DOWN!!!

He was duped to contribute to McCain's campaign and he would get tax credits.
