Talking Points Memo:

This is interesting: A good government group is set to ask the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into the two big McCain stories of recent days -- the bundled contributions from Hess executives, and the bundling by Harry Sargeant, the guy who raised cash for McCain from a host of unlikely donors.

The request, which will be made on Monday by Campaign Money Watch, which first flagged the Hess story to us, raises at least the possibility that such a probe could be initiated during the campaign. Barring that, it could keep the stories going in the press a bit.

David Donnelly of Campaign Money Watch confirms to me that they'll make the formal request on Monday, and MoveOn also is demanding a Federal probe in an email that just went out to supporters. Donnelly says that his group's request is being triggered by McCain's letter to the donors whose contributions had been bundled by Sargeant. Donnelly said that the letter, which advised the donors of the legal ins-and-outs of such contributions, didn't go far enough in trying to determine what had happened.

Like the Justice Department will investigate McCain campaign funding? Yeah right! Not in this lifetime, not with this Justice Department. McCain and crew are old crooks with years of experience. There'll be nothing done about this, like with Rove's defiance of Congressional subpoenas, missing White House e-mails, illegal hiring and firing in the Justice Department and on and on. It'll be interesting to see how long this survives in Justice or the news.

Read Matt Taibbi's story "Candidates for Sale" in the Aug 21st issue of the "Rolling Stone"

Read it here http://www.smirkingchimp.com/author/matt_taibbi

Quite a bit about bundling in the story.

Asking the US Justice Department to investigate a republican is like asking Saddam Hussein to investigate the actions of "Chemical Ali".
Same action, same results...

Our Justice Department has been totally corrupted. All of the felons are running free. See Rove run.

I saw that Nicolle person on Joe Scarborough yesterday morning, or Thursday morning. I was half asleep still, but she said something about them returning money. This may be what she was talking about.

Anyway, whether or not the DOJ does anything is mot. This, along with the DHL is enough for the Obama camp to use this against McC. They can question his "judgment," his character, and his friends. The very issues they have been using against Obama.

What a waste of time. What will this probe actually do? NOTHING. This is just a Democratic fueled political ploy. Dennis Kucinich brought resolutions to IMPEACH the Vice-President. He didn't do it as a political ploy, but wanted to get to the truth. He did this when it wasn't popular. Did the Democrats support him? NO. Now, when Pelosi is trying to boaster her party, she will "look into it" or "consider it". Kucinich seems to be one of the only Democrats who has a pair and isn't worrying about re-election. Back to this story. This is just another useless trick. Dems want to be seen as a party who will rock the boat, but not too much.

So I guess the last 8 years of disastrous Rethuglican rule was all a Democratic ploy?

The party that uses political ploys are Rethuglicans that lie their way into office.

This goes far beyond the last 8 years. Don't be fooled into believing Bill Clinton didn't do his fair share of dirt, other than his secretary. Both parties are to blame. This political game they play with us is sickening. They are 2 sides of the same coin. Republicans aren't the only ones with financial interests in the media.

Everyone complaining about the MSM not covering this needs to email them (maybe not FOX, they won't bother). It needs to be consistent and from EVERYONE until someone there listens!

And not a word on the "media" about this, right? Heaven forbids they would do their duty.

If you weren't watching, you would never know if they did or didn't do their duty, but then they would have to do their duty to get you and me to turn them back on, right?

yeah, like they slept on the Edwards story. It's only after he admitted he had an affair they act *surprised*. Some were acting like they were taken by him. Serves them right for not checking the facts. There was a time they use to do that--check the facts. From what I hear the wife already knew so what couldn't they tell her that he hadn't...there was a baby.

Will some one, any one, please explain to me the problems you people have with the MSM you love so much?
This and other good blog sites, I read the same old complaining of the MSM, yet very few of you fail to except responsibility for the MSM being one sided.
Time and again I find myself asking you people to stop watching, listening and reading their opinionated BS. You are the people that keep them in business.
The advertisers that pay the bills would drop out if the viewership was gone. When will you people finally learn and continue to spread the word everyday on every blog in every thread to leave the MSM alone.
If the MSM called you bad names, insulted you and your families, your country and life style, verbally mistreated your children, say every awful thing and lie about you, while doing it with disdain. The onslaught would continue as long as you keep patronizing them. It's all about the money they are making. Spread the word and don't stop, turn them off. Let the professional people on the blogs watch them, they post all the good videos anyway.

I do generally check my yahoo news page for quick updates, however frequently I like to check the late morning or early afternoon stuff on CNN, as I like the people they have on those shows a lot, but can do without the so-called political experts that come on starting with the Situation Room, etc.

Excuse me for being naive about this, but how exactly do the various networks and cable news stations know precisely when and which shows I have my television turned to at any given time? I don't support their sponsors that I'm aware of - i.e., the guy who sells CDs for his computer programs, AARP ads galore (which I've never joined), gimmicks for keeping the elderly safe, car and life insurance companies etc, etc. And no one has ever in my lifetime called me to inquire what stations I tune in, or for political polls either for that matter.

Just wondering...
