Obama

Things really have deteriorated between John McCain and the press: even the Wall Street Journal editorial board is turning on him. The famously conservative group publishes a column praising the economic policy of none other than Barack Obama:

The underreported economic news of the week is that Barack Obama favors a stronger dollar. Even better, he thinks a stronger greenback would help to reduce oil prices.

That at least is what the Democratic Presidential candidate told a town hall forum in Parma, Ohio, on Tuesday. "If we had a strengthening of the dollar, that would help" reduce fuel costs, he said, according to a Reuters dispatch ignored by most of the media. ... We don't know who is whispering in Mr. Obama's ear about the dollar, but he's on to a rich political vein.

Read the whole thing.

The WSJ has always been a newspaper of integrity. superb journalism.

That's not say that thei editorials are not usually frightening -- but I'm a left-of-center democrat that reads the WSJ every day for the pure INFORMATION that isprovided therein.

Not at all surprised by this, because the wsj is nothing if not consistent about economic policy.

but really, their reporters/journalists have always been incredibly brave and forthcoming about the facts. (yet to be seen whether murdoch will allow this to continue)

In the last decade or so the WSJ has become famous for being the paper who's editorial staff didn't read their own news.

The JOURNALISM of the WSJ is quite a different matter than the editorial stance.

Smart people are coming to the Obama camp. America can't stay stuck on stupid much longer. Now let's hope those who read the Wall Street Journal will get beyond Republican loyalty and vote for the guy who is smart enough to do the job.

Whose going to explain all of this to McCain. There is no way he's going to appreciate how his frigging war screwed up the dollar and is in large part responsible for the high gas prices. Republicans' always act like they are so good on economic issues when in reality they are just idiots trying to make more money for the rich.

Go get them O!

Who said the WSJ was (editorially) a right wing rag (all the time)?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:34 PM on 08/08/2008

Why don't they behave like it most of the time, then?

It's a fairly short article on an area of monetary policy where Obama’s position (at least for now!) happens to align with the WSJ's - probably somewhat of a rarity. The Huffpo editorial comment regarding McCain that somehow the WSJ editorial board is “...turning against him” is typical Huffpo hype nonsense - the article takes a shot at the Bush administration’s position on the policy but McCain’s position is not even discussed.

I wouldn't expect this to presage a great outpouring of favorable Obama coverage in the WSJ.

It's good to see that there's a 50/50 chance this country will be led by someone whose main economic experience involves balancing a family checkbook on a senator's salary. And all of that money he's getting online certainly isn't translating into votes as he's struggling to stay dead even with a boring opponent and crippled GOP. At this point, I will be surprised if he wins. http://mespace.wordpress.com

That is why we all HOPE & pray that we can beat the vicious GOP machine with grace and dignity instead of all the lying and cheating that goes on for any republican to win a race.

Yup. He is... check it out.

At this point, the only way I'm seeing Obama win this thing is for him to select Hillary as the VP candidate. That's the ONLY way to unite this party. Otherwise, we're going through this whole mess again in 2012 when McCain is running for re-election. http://mespace.wordpress.com written by Triangle1.

Why. He's a Harvard trained lawyer who is in reality very savvy on business and how the economy really works. Unlike John McCain who lives off his wife's Platinum Card, Obama is supported strongly by those on Wall Street. Sorta makes the charge he's a something other than a strong capitalist sound silly uh?

One of the reasons I support Obama so much is that he has consistently talked about economic policies designed to strengthen the value of our currency.

I haven't traveled outside of the country for almost 5 years and would like to do so again.

Unfortunately, it is way too expensive with the exchange rates the way they are.

(we'll hold the verdict on that one)

Exactly. The reason why drilling in the US won't help the US too much. With the weak dollar, the oil companies are going to sell even more oil internationally - especially countries with a stronger currency.

"We don't know who is whispering in Mr. Obama's ear about the dollar,"

Could it be former Fed Chairman Paul Volker?
