Angelina Jolie Endorsement Sought By Both Obama, McCain Campaigns

It may seem as if most entertainment industry figures are aligning with Barack Obama and just a few with John McCain, but there are still a handful of famous names who are still on the fence. And both campaigns are well aware of one star who stands out among the undecideds: Angelina Jolie.

Both campaigns have reached out to her, apparently to court her support. But in a statement to Variety provided by political adviser Trevor Neilson, Jolie says that she is waiting to make up her mind.

First, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are drawn into the fray, and now the candidates are calling on Angelina Jolie. Seriously, is this a presidential election or are we electing a homecoming king?

Because she's a big Ann Rand fan, I am guessing she's a repub. She also recently said that she's surprised people assume that all of hollywood is liberal.

I m guessing she's a republican who like BO, so she hasn't been convinced yet. We'll see.

Actually she is registered as an Independent voter... just as I WAS for years prior to this election. (I re-registered as a democrat so I could have my say in the Oregon Primary)

But I am a bit surprised that she's not made up her mind on this yet --but then again, she just had twins. I also know how much of a handful twins are.

Hopefully she'll see the light soon -- for her twins future, America's future, the world's future as I have.

Her children can form a small United Nation. I mean it in a positive way. It must be a constant effort to communicate with them, understand them, find best options for all of them. I can't see how she would back McCain, if she is forward thinking and truly believes that our children are our future.

Why do you say that? If you care about children in the prolife sense, McCain is the way to go. If you don't want to abandon the Iraqi children, some she seems particularly concerned about, McCain is the way to go. If you don't want to add 180+ new federal spending programs that will further increase the taxation burden (not to mention inflation burden) on your children, McCain is the way to go. If you want higher chances at a voucher to help level the playing field when picking a school for your children, McCain is the way to go.

If you care about having a President who believes a raped thirteen year old girl and her family, and not the government, should decide whether the resulting pregnancy should be brought to full term the McCain is not the way to go. If you think that children should not grow up in a country where Presidents routinely engage in fearmongering and sing mockingly about bombing other countries, McCain is not the way to go. If you favor universal healthcare for children, McCain is not the way to go. If you think that the Iraq War, which killed thousands of country and maimed and traumatised thousands more, was a terrible error, then McCain, who would do the same thing all over again, is not the way to go.
I have to suspect that Ms. Jolie knows full well that if she endorses Obama she will be relentlessly trashed by the Right Wing Noise Machine. If she wants to be subjected to this, then for her, McCain is the way to go.

If she endorses Obama, the McCain attack press release will sell the celebrity angle. If she endorses McCain, the press release will gush about how he's "reaching across the aisle" and is the choice of all the "right" celebrities.

Without the burden of conscience, moral values, and integrity, the McCain camp is free to spew hatred from any angle.

Perhaps Ms. Jolie should do some more study of domestic politics before she casts her vote - what about the children in need right here in the US? Those children who need healthcare and decent educations - not a movie star to adopt them? Yes, foreign policy is important - but so is domestic policy - and it seems the Republicans have little to offer the suffering souls within our own borders.

What does it matter? It's all one world; and if one less child has to suffer (be it from a rich nation like America or developing country of Africa, that's all that matters. She can adopt and help who she wills. As can you.

I swear I'll have less respect for her if she goes for McCain. It's not just that he is conservative. Everyone has a right to their own political opinion. It's that he is CORRUPT. He is obviously a fully and thoroughly bought man.

Haven't you noticed that HuffPo uses Angelina (and Brad) at every opportunity. They used to have a photo of AJ prominently in the foreground to advertise their "Entertainment" section. Half the time they have them parked on the front page of the blog. Arianna and her editors know they can reliably get about 10-15 of Angelina's rabid psycho haters to call all their like minded friends (whether Looninfers or Bradaholics) to come over here and get massive hits for HuffPo while they spread their fearful little whimperings about how AJ soils the universe with her presence. Some of them even think they are liberals.

Why would anyone think otherwise? And, most important, why would John McCain think for a second that he would have any chance at getting her vote?
