Angelina Jolie Endorsement Sought By Both Obama, McCain Campaigns

Wilshire and Washington:

It may seem as if most entertainment industry figures are aligning with Barack Obama and just a few with John McCain, but there are still a handful of famous names who are still on the fence. And both campaigns are well aware of one star who stands out among the undecideds: Angelina Jolie.

Both campaigns have reached out to her, apparently to court her support. But in a statement to Variety provided by political adviser Trevor Neilson, Jolie says that she is waiting to make up her mind.

OK as an actress, but I'm not sure that I would be influenced on her views of the candidates. It might make for interesting reading, especially since her Dad declared for McCain. That is all it would be for me - slightly interesting, if irrelevant, reading.

It is impossible for me to take seriously the intellectual prowess of someone who singlehandedly tries to raise the world's children, instead of using her millions to fund orphanages. Not logical. She could support thousands of orphans with her movie making roles, but there is a definite limit to how many children she can raise at home.

Youth vote? Depends on how you define youth. Angelina Jolie is in her thirties. Her fans aren't much younger. If a candidate wanted an endorsement to appeal to the first-time voters, he'd have to go after the cast of The Hills (or Degrassi -- but they're all Canadians).

If you're a regular reader of this board, you must know that there are a lot of people who post here doing very important work in many and various areas.

The point is that this emphasis on a single celebrity is hardly newsworthy. And from my point of view, anyone with humanitarian concerns need only look for a split second at Iraq and Iraqi children to know which way to vote.
