Politico:

Even as Barack Obama takes eight days off from the campaign trail to vacation in Hawaii, where he lived for much of his youth, the Republican National Committee is again attempting to paint the Democrat as an out-of-touch elitist, this time in a mock "Barack Obama's Hawaii Travel Guide" tweaking the Democrat for having attended an elite prep school there.

"Barack Obama's Hawaii Travel Guide," e-mailed to reporters on Friday, lists four "destinations," among them the beach locals claim is the one where Obama was photographed in his swim trunks in a shot that ran in People magazine early last year, and "Punahou School, a coeducational college preparatory day school" that Obama attended "from 1971 to 1979. The school campus covers 76 acres at the edge of the Manoa Valley."

Obama, raised by a singe mother, entered the prestigious school at age ten on a scholarship. "No one means to demean the academic successes of Barack Obama or the schools he attended," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. "The RNC and this campaign have sought to simply point out that on his Hawaii travels, there are certain landmarks reporters will likely see and this was a way to put those on the map."

Obama's elite schooling may prove a risky topic for McCain, who attended St. Stephen's, an exclusive school in Alexandria, Va., and then Episcopal High, a private boarding school in the same city, in the 1950s. The son and grandson of Navy admirals, he ended up at the Naval Academy, where, as he often reminds voters, he finished near the bottom of his graduating class.

This is soooo hypocritical. How many GOPers (including our current Commander in Chief, even though he clearly lacks the mental capacity to be a high academic achiever) attended Ivy League schools?

Is everyone willing to see this headline once again "How can 54 million people be so STUPID?"

Nothing I say can adequately reflect the disgust I feel at this latest ridiculous attack. What I find most appalling is that I am almost certain that somewhere in American quite a number of people are naive enough to actually believe this absurd drivel.

It is now a bad thing to receive a good education??? This is unbelievable but, unfortunately, not surprising.

Didn't the GOP's hero and simple Texas cowboy attend Phillips Andover Academy, Yale and Harvard? How do you get more elite? The current candidate was an affirmative action admit at the US Naval Academy where you need a congressman or senator to support your admission, but somehow he is an average joe? Everytime I read their talking points I want to vomit.

With every passing minute I am more convinced that McCain is repped by the complete morons he deserves.

The McCain campaign is simply stuck on stupid. Barack went to this Prep School on scholarship and just finished paying off his student loans LAST YEAR.

True, Barack went to Harvard Law School and was head of the Law Review there. But who would you rather have as President ?

1. A smart, articulate Harvard graduate and Law Professor
or
2. A guy who graduated #894 out of #900 from the Naval Academy--BACK IN THE 1950s???

McCain, I used to like you, but now I think you're a tool--and a mean one at that.

American voters twice voted for a dry drunk as the person they would most like to have a beer with. There is nothing we won't fall for.

Quite frankly repubs - I want my President to be elitist and well educated. And, not an education and grades that were bought and paid for by "daddy". I've had enough of this dumb ass sh*t.

Good grief, is there no level of ignorance and silliness to which the GOP WON'T sink down to?

All politicians are elitist .. don't see why they bring this up every election ... it's like pot calling kettle black ...

At least Obama worked to get where he is ...

Mc Cain got to where he is through nepotism ...

End of Story ....

McCain wants people to believe that no matter how hard they work to overcome their disadvantages, America is not the place to get ahead. No, you must be born in a family of privilege, they are the only ones who deserve their place in society.

Obama is so inspiring to so many people, because he does demonstrate that it does pay to study hard, work hard and to believe in yourself.
