Politico:

Even as Barack Obama takes eight days off from the campaign trail to vacation in Hawaii, where he lived for much of his youth, the Republican National Committee is again attempting to paint the Democrat as an out-of-touch elitist, this time in a mock "Barack Obama's Hawaii Travel Guide" tweaking the Democrat for having attended an elite prep school there.

"Barack Obama's Hawaii Travel Guide," e-mailed to reporters on Friday, lists four "destinations," among them the beach locals claim is the one where Obama was photographed in his swim trunks in a shot that ran in People magazine early last year, and "Punahou School, a coeducational college preparatory day school" that Obama attended "from 1971 to 1979. The school campus covers 76 acres at the edge of the Manoa Valley."

Obama, raised by a singe mother, entered the prestigious school at age ten on a scholarship. "No one means to demean the academic successes of Barack Obama or the schools he attended," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. "The RNC and this campaign have sought to simply point out that on his Hawaii travels, there are certain landmarks reporters will likely see and this was a way to put those on the map."

Obama's elite schooling may prove a risky topic for McCain, who attended St. Stephen's, an exclusive school in Alexandria, Va., and then Episcopal High, a private boarding school in the same city, in the 1950s. The son and grandson of Navy admirals, he ended up at the Naval Academy, where, as he often reminds voters, he finished near the bottom of his graduating class.

The Republicans are grasping for straws because they know their candidate is really an empty suit: http://digg.com/politics/Not_clear_the_Republication_Candidate_Has_Right_Stuff_WSJ

As a foreign born person, sometimes I'm just speechless at the BS that goes on in American politics. I can't even imagine any other country in the world using such tactics against someone. That they are too smart and went to good schools?!?! Jeez Luis! Shouldn't we have the top of the cream running our country? Who the eff are these idiots buying these BS? Do they they want the country to get to their low IQ levels?

Obama '08!

Those that have failed feel bouyed up by the success of others who did no better. Of course inn the case of Bush and mccain .. its their fathers and grand fathers successes that allowed them to succeed.. and in McCain's case the money of his mistress now second wife. The repugs never tell this part of the story.

We have elected one President who is low mediocre at best and look at the disaster he has caused. Will the people really let themselves be fooled into making the same mistake twice?

They might well just do that.

And Bush went to an expensive prep shcool after highschool because his grades were too bad for colleges in Texas... I hear he measured in Cheerleading. Hmmm .. maybe thats where he came up with Bring It On.

Let me get this straight. TUCKER BOUNDS is going to tell us that Barack Obama is an ELITIST?

Perhaps he is trying to tell us we should vote for an ignoramus? I think we tried that.

Talk about the dumbing down of America!! Are we supposed to be suspicious of someone who is well educated and top of his class? Is this a problem?

Why would we not want to elect the most intelligent person to lead our country? We have already seen what happens when we go with the least.

No, not America, we don't want the best or the brightest to lead us; we want the one who finished fifth to last from his class, awwwwwwwwwww.

It's OK that McCain went to an exclusive private school, because he didn't learn anything there. So Obama went to Harvard, and did well there - everyone knows that Harvard is a nursery for the far left (I know because I read it in a post on HuffPo).

The subtext of the McCain line on Obama is "I may be rich but I'm stupid like you, Obama is clever and not like you"

LOL so now it's a bad thing to be SMART?

Oh my god, the GOP really does target rednecks and hicks. "Don't vote for that guy--he has brains! He's educated! The last thing we want in the White House is someone with an EDUCATION!"

According to these bozos it is. It is worse if you happen to be an "uppity" African American.

I have to pinch myself sometimes to remind myself it is 2008.

Hopefully Obama's camp and or one of his surrogates will come out with a list of the financial and social differences between the Obama's and McCain so that the public can discern who is lying about being an elitist.

What's the tag line on this ad?
"Take pride in your ignorance. Vote for John McCain."
