We've put up audio from the interview: http://entertonement.com/collections/1813/Serve-One-Term

Since Romney is often mentioned as the frontrunner for the VP slot, this would open the door for the first Mormon president. Just something to think about...

With the track record here, does anyone really believe they would stick to that pledge? I can see the interview after the 4 year term. I don't remember, I did not say that! Same old same old.

McCain is already a demented old man - just imagine what he'll be like in 4 years.

Wouldn't it be better to elect someone you're excited about having 8 years to accomplish Good Things? Why is a single-term president somehow better???

It would seem to me that this is a transparent attempt to woo anti-Obama Clinton supporters......vote for me for a 4 year term and then Hillary can run in 2012 when I'm done....yeah, right.

Can't Hillary can run in 4 years if she wants to? You don't have to vote for McCain for her to run.

While I would certainly prefer zero terms from him, I really don't understand how this is supposed to help him. It makes him a lame duck from the get go. It means that he doesn't have to make the voters happy and would be left free to make the bribers happy. Look at all the nefarious stuff BushCo is up to in the second term with neither W nor Cheney running. They are just entrenching the destruction.

Maybe it's because he knows that he has cancer and probably won't be able to run for a second term.

I'm just sayin'

I would think the one term pledge essentially eliminates Joe Lieberman as a Veep nominee. If the somewhat unlikely thing happens and John McCain is the next President and he has made a one term pledge, his selection for Veep will be the nominee apparent of the Republican party. The Republican Party will not nominate a Jewish Democrat. If McCain thought there was some advantage in this pledge (and I think it's crazy) - why would he give up his opportunity to name a successor?

I wonder why Americans are supposed to vote for a candidate who vows to stay in office only for one term. How is going to carry out his plan in 4 years? Is he telling us he is too old to serve two terms? This looks like what of the worst dictators in the world such Mugabe of Zimbabwe or Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia makes this type of pledge. After 17 years in power, Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia lost to his staged election in front of international observers. He declare he won the election before the votes counted and when he was asked later on by a BBC journalist, he pledges to stay for another 5 years.

I think a no term pledge from the voters would even be better.

ROTFLMAO. He couldn't keep a pledge to run a clean campaign.. and I'm supposed to trust his word??? .. How stupid do they think we are??? 4 years from now, when nothing's changed, he'll tell us his work is not done and he needs more than one term.

WTF I'de feel inclined to vote for him if he pledged TO JUST GO AWAY.

That would be one term too many and it presupposes that he would live long enough to serve one whole term....

Who cares if he pledges 1 term; I prefer 0 terms for McCain!
