President Bush Not So Good With American Flags

So, apparently, even after seven years, President George W. Bush still hasn't learned how to correctly display the American flag. Glorious. We still have to pay him a salary, out of our stimulus packages, apparently.

It's times like this that you just sort of have to say, "Know what? On second thought, Mr. President, please don't make an effort to resolve the crisis in Georgia, okay? I think we'll all be better off."

This is a moot point. For better or worse, Bush can display the flag however he pleases...

US Code, Title 4, Chapter 1: Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation.

I find it curious that Jason Linkins doesn't actually cite HOW President Bush is improperly displaying the US Flag. Please Mr. Linkins, enlighten us w/ your knowledge and tell us which part of United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 or Title 36, Chapter 3 is President Bush violating?

The flag is displayed that way on all military uniforms as well. When you ask a soldier why, he will most likely not know, but if you get an informed one he will say that it represents the idea of moving forward and not retreating because if the flag was held aloft in battle it would be blowing backwards as the soldiers advanced, and thus the stars would be seen in the upper right hand corner.

I'm sure soldiers have plenty of time to figure that out..... Thanks for sharing. We will say that Bush knows ALL about the FLAG and the MILITARY protocols. But we will continue to BASH others for not placing their hands over their hearts during the singing of the National Anthem ... I try to sing. I only cross my heart during the Pledge of Allegiance. Leave it to folks who don't know the US Flag code to get this wrong.

1. There is no designated way to display the flag as President Bush is doing. The flag isn't on a pole or standard so there is part of the code that covers this display.

2. The flag that hung over the stands at the Women's Gymnastics Finals was incorrect. (When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left.)

3. Most of the US Olympic Team is violating the US flag code: "No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen,­..." How many ATHLETIC jerseys and swimming skull caps have US Flags on them.

Real patriots KNOW the proper way to respect the flag.
