President Bush Not So Good With American Flags

So, apparently, even after seven years, President George W. Bush still hasn't learned how to correctly display the American flag. Glorious. We still have to pay him a salary, out of our stimulus packages, apparently.

It's times like this that you just sort of have to say, "Know what? On second thought, Mr. President, please don't make an effort to resolve the crisis in Georgia, okay? I think we'll all be better off."

I posted a comment to TechChic pointing out that not all liberals "hate the flag". But I have to make another comment -- dissing W for getting the flag backwards is stupid. It's a flag. There are always two sides.

If he were a wall, there would be no doubt that he got it backwards. Since he's not a wall, ehhh.

There is a plenitude of reasons to criticize GW Bush. I would suggest his hugely anti-Constitutional domestic policy and assertion of Executive privelege, and his almost insane (that is, disconnected from reality) foreign policy.

Getting after him because of how he held up a flag is pretty toothless. I mean, he did hold it right-side-up.

Liberals have been burning, wearing and denigrating the United States flag for the last 50 years. You don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to "respecting" the flag. If you are bitter and frustrated with yourself and your life. That's your issue. Ventilate your vulgarity on yourself, not on others.

I am a liberal. I am a veteran. I have NEVER denigrated the flag. I ALWAYS salute as prescribed. I don't have a problem with Mr. Bush's display of the flag -- the flag always has two sides, and he is not a wall. Criticism of this photo is pointless, especially compared to the criticism that can be leveled against Mr. Bush for his idiotic foreign policy and anti-Constitutional domestic policy.

YOU are guilty of, at least, over-generalization. There are very many "liberals" who have always displayed perfect respect for the flag. There are others who have not. Who cares? The flag is not the nation. I think of it as a symbol of the principles upon which the nation was founded, but I can understand that some folks consider that it has been hijacked by the "my country right or wrong" sect.

I will continue to show respect to the flag as a proud liberal veteran. You can argue with me after you attend a sporting event and not only salute the flag with your hand over your heart but sing along with the Star-Spangled Banner.

I am a lifelong Democratic Party member and citizen of this country and have never denigrated a flag, which, incidentally, I am free to do so if I want to express my unhappiness with those leading this country deep into a shithole. I am free, I am an American, and I vote.
