Campaign AdWatch: Hot White Women Like Obama (VIDEO)

Just when you thought the real world concerns coming out of Eastern Europe might send the Presidential campaign winging back in a more adult direction, John McCain hangs out his douchenozzle flag again, returning to his juvenile "Celebrity" meme. He'd have been wise to drop this theme, since the Obama campaign's decision to try to mine the same territory was the "Celebrity" attack's definitive shark-jumping moment. I guess the McCain camp just couldn't resist adding a Surge of race-card jujitsu for spice -- this new, painful, offering practically begs the Obama camp to draw the obvious "Harold, call me!" comparison.

Not being American, but for what it's worth, I think these ads are just plain stupid. If I was not following Obama's every move, I would think this latest ad would help him. It would make me interested in knowing more about him. Having said that, the part about the $42,000.00 needs attending to. It's just a big fat lie.

I hope the Obama camp doesn't stoop to the low-life level that McCain's camp has stooped... Obama is the one who has demonstrated the qualities and character of a commander-in-chief. There are volumns of information and data to support the facts... The point is not that people are gong to READ racism into the ad. The ad is racially encoded and it is designed to be understood by a white male southern audience over the age of 50 as a sign that Obama is a sexual competitor who is dangerously seductive to their daughters. In that sense the ad is very effective.

Abbie. You just don't know what you're talking about. There is a racial subtext here. (You do understand the concept of subtext, right? It is implied, but not stated, content.) The subtext is that Obama is a (hyper)sexualized black man who is arousing young white women. He is violating their purity and he is competing with white men for THEIR women and winning. This idea is extremely threatening to conservative whites who see black men as sexually dangerous competitors. The McCain camp knows this and they know that this will play in the south. I'm guessing that you are not an older southern white male. They is the audience for this ad, and they know exactly what it means.
