CQ Politics:

A Wikipedia editor notices some similarities between Sen. John McCain's speech today on the crisis in Georgia and the Wikipedia article on the country Georgia. They appear similar enough that most people would consider parts of McCain's speech to be derived from Wikipedia.

And talk about PRESUMPTUOUS. The American flag in the background. The edict to Russia. Why doesn't McCain wait until he is president before he ACTS like HE is the president? Trying to sound intelligent is a stretch, too. He had to have Wikipedia write his speech!

He's now learning how to program a VCR. Give him some credit.

"They appear similar enough that most people would consider parts of McCain's speech to be derived from Wikipedia."

And we all know what an unassailable source Wikipedia is.

Pathetic.

I thought only I recognized your fact. The first statement made by professors and bloggers is don't quote wikipedia, yet the man who wishes to become president of the country hires political writers who plagiarize directly from the most unreliable source for adults. Go figure.

Yep! Ya know, you'd think if they were gonna steal, they would have stolen from somone good... well, or at least smart, ok, ok maybe they could have even ripped off someone who tends to get their facts straight more often than they get them jacked-up..... but noooo, Wikki-candidate steals from the most unreliable, best recognized site on the internet.. You know, the net...that new fangled contraption made of tubes 'n stuff.

Me thinks this is a case of a wikipedia editor having a bit of a big head as the quotes also look a lot like the CIA factbook that the wiki folks took the info from in the first place.

Maybe so but it was not the wiki editor who used it as a foreign policy statement.

Too bad McCain's ghosts didn't use the Encyclopedia Brittanica (it's on-line too). At the very least, he would have gotten some credibility on the issue.

Whether "plagiarize" is the apt description of McCain's use of Wikipedia to formulate his speech is a matter of personal opinion. But this is the man who keeps insisting that Sen Obama's grasp of international affairs is insufficient due to his "inexperience." And he is using Wiki to fact find??? This is Twilight Zone stuff.

I hope someone will be able to Google "Wikipedia" for him when he gets that 3 a.m. call and needs to make an informed decision about a world crisis....

This is just a clever ploy by McCain's staff to make us THINK he's computer-literate. But we all know that by his own admission, he needs help to read the newspaper on-line. Wikipedia is way beyond his capabilities.

Bah, they're reaching on this one.

C'mon let's not be silly like the Republicans and stick to stuff that matters.

It rings truer than when McCain offered up Cindy for the raunchy "Miss Buffalo Chip" contest at the Sturgis biker rally.

Doesn't "Wikipedia editor" essentially just mean "someone?" Not that that makes the notice any less significant, but it's a glorious title for something any 5 year old with a computer can become.

Plagiarism and recipe stealing, is this what America wants in a President and First Lady?
Is this an example of good values the GOP espouses?
