CQ Politics:

A Wikipedia editor notices some similarities between Sen. John McCain's speech today on the crisis in Georgia and the Wikipedia article on the country Georgia. They appear similar enough that most people would consider parts of McCain's speech to be derived from Wikipedia.

Well, at least we know he now has figured out how to use the Internet. I think if he hadn't lifted this from Wikipedia he might have run the risk of calling the Caucasus nation "Czechoslovakia".

No we know that someONE on his staff knows how to use the internet.

At least we could find solace in the fact that GrandPa McCain can now surf on the internet and pliagiarize. It is a remarkable achievement!

I would guess he still hasn't learned to log on yet.To go so far as to say he accessed Wikipedia on his own,in his condition, is beyond comprehension. I suspect some lowly staffer will lose his/her job over this..........if he/she's lucky.

Why is everyone so surprised....McCain never had an original thought in 27 years

I guess the Cliffs Notes version wasn't available before the speech. And why is this surprising to anyone. We have already seen plagiarized recipes from Cindy McCain. Apparently they are incapable of any original thoughts. The source of this latest instance is a little more troubling, as Wikipedia can at times be mistaken.

Right after his scouring of Wikipedia he rides his LOLercoaster over to Facebook.

Remember!

John McCaint finished at the bottom of his class. lol

So don't expect old Johnny to be a visionary at this late late stage of his life.

McCaint, Bush and the neo-cons are always re-fighting the last war.
And in their delusion, they pretend that Russia is not NUCLEAR-ARMED. lol

This conflict could have been averted if Bush was familiar with world history.

Bush has been doing a napoleon and an hitler: Foolishly prodding and persecuting the Russians, who just ALWAYS want to be left alone.

There was the unnecessary radar in Poland and Czech Republic.
There was the effort to advance NATO up to the Russian borders.
There were the incessant interference in internal Russian affairs.
This despite the fact that the vast majority of Russians are coll with their Russian-style politics.

Russian leaders have far more approval ratings from their people than Bush.

AGAIN!

USA needs Russia to prevent the proliferation of loose nukes.
USA, EU need Russia to help prevent maniac muslims from acquiring weapons of mass destruction.

No foreign policy object is more important for the US.
Leave Russia alone.

Russia is an old 'Asian' culture.
Russians WILL NEVER be exactly like western Europeans!

---------------------------
Keating Five
---------------------------

In the late 1980's McCain finally distinguished himself in the Senate with the help of a man named Charles Keating.

The Lincoln Savings and Loan, headed by Keating, had become embroiled in scandal and federal regulators were looking to shut it down and investigate.

Keating, who had known McCain since the latter's days as a layabout schmoozer for his father-in-law the Vice President of Public Relations for the Phoenix Budweiser distributor, began looking for a way to get the government to drop the investigation.

Between 1982 and 1987, Keating had given McCain $112,000.

Of course, it is possible that Keating had given McCain this money out of the goodness of his heart with no strings attached, simply out of a heartfelt love of the democratic process.

As a Freshman Comp teacher I can say after rading the exerpts of his speech and the wikkipedia entry, that if MCCain handed in his speech as an original work in my freshman research class, he would fail the class and likely have to appear before an accademic review board where he would face expulsion.

It is further evidence of Mc's lazy minded practice of getting his advice from his peers/handlers!! In his hasty attempt to be first candidate to speak on this horrific mess he gets lifted material from F- staff, which could very well be challenged, especially by Russia!!

I'm happy that O is on vacation ... & that there is no direct statement from him or his camp ... at least I haven't heard!

This is GW's mess, let him clean his own face and present it to the american public!

Absolutely! As a college professor it has come to the point where I announce before giving a research assignment that I will not accept Wikipedia as a primary source.

We know where his speech writer did his research. Of course he does know that Wikipedia is not always right?

I'm against the death penalty in general, but I would make an exception for the forcible rape of a 14 year-old by someone WHO PROPOSED THE DEATH PENALTY FOR CHILD RAPISTS.

hahahahahahaha... when I first read McCains 'statement' on the Georgian conflict... I immediately went to Wikipedia and noticed the similarities (almost verbatim in some parts). I'm sure a Mc Cain aide printed the article out for him to read and highlighted particular sentences for him to focus on.

It was most (as usual) difficult to watch & listen to Mc!! Did you notice after that terrible read, as he left the podium, reporters attempted to ask his follow-up questions ... in quick motion to leave, Mc said ... that's all I have to say!!

Absolutely, amazing ... this man cannot ... is not able to free-speak coherently from experience or retained historical understandings of any important issue confronting the american people!!!

I'm sure an aide was told "write the speech", went to Wikipedia, got the information, changed bits like you do as a plagiarizing student, and gave it to the senator, "Done."

I'm sure McCain didn't know anything about it, or question it, or even know what Wikipedia is. He'd obviously read it many times, but didn't even seem to understand it.

No wonder he took no questions from the pres..
