Pelosi Drilling Vote

The Hill:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday night dropped her staunch opposition to a vote on offshore oil drilling in the House.

Republicans, reacting to high gas prices, have demanded a vote on additional oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf, where drilling is currently blocked by a moratorium. Until now, Pelosi (D-Calif.) has resisted the idea as a "hoax." But in an interview on CNN's Larry King Live, she indicated that she was open to a vote.

FYI, Nancy Pelosi is investing her own cash with T. Boone and his company . . .

What are the odds she gives them taxpayer money for his plan and in the end giving her more cash?

Crooked politicians . . .

In May 2007 she invested in T. Boone Picken’s clean energy fuels corp., CLNE, which is the sole sponsor of a proposal in California to funnel $5 billion in state funds and $5 billion in Federal funs to this corporation which will indirectly help them create a giant wind farm in the Texas panhandle.”

Why does everyone in the media assume the states will automatically go along with this? Because they ALL are politicians.

I'm sure she'll find a way to make herself into the victim, page 4 of the democrat playbook.

Pe-lousy.

As you pointed out a few posts back, the real fight is how much will be unleashed in the face of the ban expiration in September.

I think enough voters will get that giving away the entire store doesn't guarantee more oil 7-10 years from now. It simply pads the potential reserves portfolio of the oil giants, which helps their earnings but not actual supplies.

Once again, the MSM has failed the body politic by failing to note the impending expiration of the ban. They have essentially given the GOP credit for "liberating" oil that may NEVER reach market.

OK, the political winds are blowing and fierce. And so get a bunch of stuff for it. Examples - all domestic oil production cannot be exported, all tax subsidies removed immediately, foreign profits are taxed, new leases cannot be explored until existing leases are producing or returned. Stuff like that...

What's really disappointing is that of all the comments, I've only found one that mentions the offshore drilling ban is going to expire at the end of September. In other words, no vote = no ban. Look it up: congress offshore drilling ban expire

Here's another angle: you've all been suckered by Bush. Bush lifted the executive order against offshore drilling and then called on Congress to do the same. This framed the argument as "Congress must vote to lift the offshore drilling ban", when in fact Congress must vote to RENEW the offshore drilling ban. Look it up: congress offshore drilling ban renew

That ban expires very soon on its own. It has to be renewed. you are correct.

also, "Huggington Post indicates willingess to ban this comment for the use of the term 'bend over'. Again."

More kowtowing to Booo$hies??? I can't take her spinelessness. Why don't you say, "Okay we'll have a vote -- only if and when impeachment goes forward." Let's see that!

Who wouldn't be fine with that? There aren't enough votes for impeachment but there is for drilling.

Watch, she will have clean hands and allow the ban to die.

Ah, Pelosi is willing to force a vote on an amendment to an energy package. President Bush and The Gas & Oil Party (GOP) would be unwilling to pass a bill without out. So you poison the package with Democratic initiatives such as closing tax loopholes and throwing in a few billion for alternative energy. That way, both parties get what they want while appearing to be in opposition. A cheap sellout.

If Bush finds the package too unpalatable, he will veto his own ideas. Both sides will accuse each other of playing politics. The two "parties" have the script down very well. On the other hand, if the package passes, everybody wins except... the American taxpayer.

So, just what is the difference between the two parties besides well prepared scripts? The Republicans are the business side of The American Politburo and The Democrats are the Social Side. Together, they squeeze the middle and polarize America into two warring camps. Just as they want it. Just as it should not be.

Personally I hate being had by politicians of any party. Just look at the rhetoric here that defines the camps you talk about.

The American electorate has trained their politicians well. As soon as it is about trivial amounts of money, even if it is just perceived and not even real, they tumble like empty cardboard boxes in the storm.

America has sold out. And not just the politicians. They whole country has.

Why does this sound like Phil (The Compassionate) Graham? Please clarify. I don't think you are saying that 700M per year of cash exported to foreign states is trival.

Flip flopping is not a good thing in politics, generally speaking. Being for something before you were against it, or against it before you were for it, generally hurts whatever “it” is. But being on the unpopular side of a basic pocketbook issue is far worse.. Better to look like a gymnast than like a guy who doesn’t know what it costs to fill up – or care. So what does Pelosi and Obama do about John McCain’s flip-flop? They have two choices. They can attack him for it. Or they can do their own.Guess which one they will do.

It only hurts if you are a leader which Pelosi is not. On oil however I don't mind a flip flop because the price has changed the playing field in the last 15 years.

I truly think that Pelosi and Clinton have shown that they are not good at wielding individual power. They are erratic and self serving. They blame others and have no real agenda. Maybe women aren't fit for power. Maybe they are personally inept. Whichever, they certainly are not helping the women's movement in any manner other than they have been elected, annointed and appointed a certain level of power and influence which they handle like a bucket full of super snot. Their fashion statements are really absurd. They're both just second rate.

"They blame others and have no real agenda"

That's called ploitics and they all are the same . . . socialism is the progressive agenda though since their followers have failed at life and feel like a victim that should be able to use government to steal from others that have succeeded.

Does Pelosi have a good reason for taking the easy way out?
Yes
Her name is Cindy Sheehan.

Pelosi is desperate.
She doesn't know of any crimes that would warrant impeachment.
We do, but we simply do not answer to her overlords, that's all.

Easy way out?

I don't care what the issue is, if the public wants a vote and the people of the Congress want a vote then let there be a vote. If it fails then you win, if it passes you lose.
