Democratic Convention Theme Taken From Wes Clark's PAC

My colleague Sam Stein reported earlier today that Barack Obama's VP choice will speak on the veteran-themed third night of the Democratic convention. As he noted, top Obama officials immediately poured water on any speculation that this coincidence necessarily signals a VP with military experience.

But here's one more interesting connection that hints ever-so-slightly toward the selection of a veteran veep, submitted by a sharp reader.

According to USA Today, the theme for Wednesday, Aug. 27 is "Securing America's Future," which just also happens to be the name of Gen. Wesley Clark's political action committee. (The URL for its website is simply "SecuringAmerica.com," but FEC filings list the full name.)

For what it's worth, an aide to Gen. Clark could not restrain near-riotous laughter when asked if there was anything behind the connection.

"I don't think it's anything more than an interesting coincidence," the aide said in between convulsions. "It's just because his PAC was named so well!"

Still, it's not as though the party is randomly naming each day of the convention. The theme for Thursday, when Obama will speak, is the familiar-sounding "Change You Can Believe In."

Wes Clark is a great choice. He has name recognition and is respected. I like that he already put McCain in his place.

If you go to www.securingamerica.com, you'll see that Wesley Clark is the perfect fit for Barack Obama. THIS GUY MAKES THE MSM UNEASY WHEN THEY ATTACK HIM ON MILITARY SERVICE, ESPECIALLY WHEN JOHN MCCAIN HAS TO SALUTE HIM AS HIS SUPERIOR. John McCain and GOP knows whats coming...A HUGE SHIFT IN MILITARY AND TRADITIONAL CONSERVATIVE SUPPORT TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. BARACK OBAMA IS GOING TO CONSOLIDATE THE LEFT AND RIGHT INTO ONE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY....THERE WILL BE NO OTHER OPTIONS BUT DEMOCRATS. THANK GOD!

I believe by picking Wesley Clark, The Democratic Party will once again be the Party of the People's Military. Slowly but surely, these "conservative values" of family, patriotism and service will be monopolized by the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

Barack Obama and his campaign know EXACTLY what they are doing...HE WILL CHANGE THE FACE AND POLITICS OF THIS COUNTRY FOREVER!

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE DAY WHEN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CEASES TO EXIST...DO SOME RESEARCH AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

I've always liked Clark, and I think he is perhaps the ideal complement to balance out Obama's ticket in many ways.

I was concerned that he may have been involved in the Pentagon scandal involving all the paid military pundit-analysts that were paid to sell the war to the American people, and apparently he was not one of them!

Proves to me that when the spotlight is not on him, he can still does the right thing.

Best of all, he is a FORMER repub who once was lost but found his way. BTW: Where's Kaine? I sense he was a decoy, like Bayh.

WHOSOVER SENATOR OBAMA CHOSES AS HIS VP
I FOR ONE WILL BE HAPPY

FOR I TRUST HIS GOOD JUDGEMENT

ONLY HORRID SURPRISE FOR ME WOULD BE IF HE WAS TO NOMINATE H ROTTEN CLINTON
..................IT WOULD JUST SIGNAL I HAVE BEEN WRONG ABOUT SENATOR OBAMA

SHE AND HER HUSBAND ARE THE 'UGLY VIRUS' WITHIN OUR PARTY

CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE BACK OF THEM.........

On the other hand, didn't Wesley Clark introduce Kathleen Sebelius at a fund raiser in Texas as the next vice president of the United States of America? Maybe he was just warming up to do it at the convention...

Well, it appears that the comments here are about 99% positive for Wes Clark. I'll add my vote to that, for 99.00001%

If you want Wes Clark as VP on Obama ticket......call the Obama headquarters @ : (866) 675-2008
and tell him he'd be crazy NOT to put Clark on his ticket. It's a toll free #

I'm starting to get on the Clark bandwagon because he is the only democrat I can count on to blast McCain about his qualifications and I dont think I have to worry about him showing up in some ad praising John McCain.

ITs a WIN/WIN for me

He's unafraid. He can take a punch and deliver one back! He's smart! He's not Darth Vader!

I have my fingers crossed. I supported Clark in 2004 and I think with all of his knowledge and expertise in several fields that he would be a brilliant choice. Clark just needed a charisma transplant and Barack supplies that with interest.

For me it is coming down to this: without a strong military stance and a VP that embodies it, I don't think Obama will get anything but a reluctant vote fom me. I don't want to go through 4 to 8 years of Republicans trying to goad Obama into military mistakes.

Obama needs a beard... hope he knows it.

Clark on the ticket would add a bit more confidence for some voters. All in all though, I completely trust Obama's judgment regardless of who his VP is. I can't wait to find out.

Yeah! I have always been a Clark fan! Never more than when he b**ch-slapped McCain about overuse of the "war hero" status and then pointing to Obama's lack of military expterience as an indicater of Obama's unsuitablity to lead. Gen Clark waded into that one with both feet , and although he was trounced by the media he just shrugged it off. Obama's folks were squeezed to kind of back off it a bit in public. But you've just gotta know they loved how he waded into that all guns blazing. He left a Gen. Clark sized hole in McCain's ego!!

Obama and Clark would compliment each other perfectly. Clark would bring unchallenged competence on national security. Mccain would have to salute him. Besides, he's cute as hell.
