I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Clark

My colleague Sam Stein reported earlier today that Barack Obama's VP choice will speak on the veteran-themed third night of the Democratic convention. As he noted, top Obama officials immediately poured water on any speculation that this coincidence necessarily signals a VP with military experience.

But here's one more interesting connection that hints ever-so-slightly toward the selection of a veteran veep, submitted by a sharp reader.

According to USA Today, the theme for Wednesday, Aug. 27 is "Securing America's Future," which just also happens to be the name of Gen. Wesley Clark's political action committee. (The URL for its website is simply "SecuringAmerica.com," but FEC filings list the full name.)

For what it's worth, an aide to Gen. Clark could not restrain near-riotous laughter when asked if there was anything behind the connection.

"I don't think it's anything more than an interesting coincidence," the aide said in between convulsions. "It's just because his PAC was named so well!"

Still, it's not as though the party is randomly naming each day of the convention. The theme for Thursday, when Obama will speak, is the familiar-sounding "Change You Can Believe In."

It just makes sense. Clark is not a Washington insider, yet has all the RIGHT experience. He is older, but not too old, and very likable...

I REALLY hope this is it! This would put McCain in his rightful place!

Clark is not my first choice, but he was a Hillary supporter and her followers like him. It could be a great way to bring the party together.

I was an HRC voter, but I don't think there is any chance for her to be VP. I'm not even sure Obama/Clinton would be a better draw than Obama/xxxxxx, although Clinton/Obama would have been dead-cert.

Anyhow, Clark would be darn good. I hadn't thought it was possible, but it it is, damn. One, he's reasonable in his own right (and undercuts the Johnny Mac military vibe). Two, it's a relinking of the party.

Ooh, now I'm getting excited. The bad thing is, now Bayh or Sebelius will seem like an inferior choice.

And I don't think Obama would use a slogan SO close to Wes Clarks unless it meant something...

But also, being as the VP choice is such a deeply kept secret, I don't think BO's campaign would be dumb enough to make a slip like this

A Clark choice would fit perfectly with O's (non) response to the "getting shot down isn't a qualification to be president." He allowed the press echo chamber to say that he had denounced Clark's comments when he did no such thing.

What better candidate to counter McC's "fit to lead" nonsense.

The qualifications are totally there & as an extra added super bonus...
No other potential VP pick sounds as good rolling off the tongue. Just try any other potential VP pick in conjunction w/ Obama & it's obvious. Obama/ Clark just sounds best. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. YES!!!

Clark was my first choice for VP back in January.
If Clinton isn't on the ticket, this is certainly a strong choice for rallying Democrats.
I'm not sure that there is anyone else out there that would be better.

Wes Clark is the only former Clinton supporter that I was willing to accept as a VP choice. I hope he gets it, at his age (63), this would be the perfect job for him, at the perfect time in his life. However, this choice would also open the field of contenders for 2016 wide open, because he would not run for President again at that point.

I don't care if Gen Clark is VP or something else -- as long as he has a prominent position in the Admin.

Obama/ Clark 08'
I know a lot of fence sitters who would leap off that fence real fast if Wes Clark were the VP choice.
I hope beyond hope that this becomes reality...
