Clark

My colleague Sam Stein reported earlier today that Barack Obama's VP choice will speak on the veteran-themed third night of the Democratic convention. As he noted, top Obama officials immediately poured water on any speculation that this coincidence necessarily signals a VP with military experience.

But here's one more interesting connection that hints ever-so-slightly toward the selection of a veteran veep, submitted by a sharp reader.

According to USA Today, the theme for Wednesday, Aug. 27 is "Securing America's Future," which just also happens to be the name of Gen. Wesley Clark's political action committee. (The URL for its website is simply "SecuringAmerica.com," but FEC filings list the full name.)

For what it's worth, an aide to Gen. Clark could not restrain near-riotous laughter when asked if there was anything behind the connection.

"I don't think it's anything more than an interesting coincidence," the aide said in between convulsions. "It's just because his PAC was named so well!"

Still, it's not as though the party is randomly naming each day of the convention. The theme for Thursday, when Obama will speak, is the familiar-sounding "Change You Can Believe In."

Clark publicly endorsed Sebelius for VP back in June. Red herring. But there's no question that Clark will be in Obama's cabinet. No question at all.

It won't be a woman, sorry. BTW, he couldn't very well endorse himself for the position, now could he? And the vetting process was not concluded in June, so whatever happened way back then, really doesn't matter now.

Clark should chime in on this Russian / Georgia conflict. He is the perfect voice on the matter given his credentials.

Yeah, but I'm sure he's advising Obama. However, it would be nice if he gave the constituents a little tease on his level of expertise.

I'd be surprised. I love Wes, but the press seems to have an unnatural hatred of him, constantly twisting his words and misquoting him.

The press? They have long since rendered themselves irrelevant.

He criticized their beloved McCain and called him on his "experience."
Makes me like Clark even more - hope this is true.

great choice. but could mitt romney Really run circles around Wes Clarke? i'm not so sure about that.
Romney always struck me as a glad-handing empty suit.

I agree, Romney is a charmer, but I think Wes would be brilliant going up against him.

If McBush selects Romp-knee it won't help him take Michigan. Those in Michigan can care less about him and what does he have to do with that state?

Romp-knee will alienate a lot of the evangelical votes. They feel that Mormonism is a cult and it will ring loud and clear when come time to vote.

Good thing about Romp-knee is that he's good with economic issues. But he does have baggages himself also. His company sent jobs overseas and might not ring well with voters.

Clark was not a good prez candidate. His hype burned out whenever he was asked a policy issue that didn't concern foreign affairs. He might be a good attack dog, but Mitt Romney would run circles around him in the debate whenever the issue of health care, economics, and social security came up.

He would have talking points, and quite frankly the same this would happen to Romney on Foreign Affairs and Military issues. So it would be a wash.

BTW, Clark was valedictorian of his class at West Point, was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford where he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. So, I'm not even sure your argument holds water.

Clark would be so much better as a VP choice than Kaine or Bayh as to induce euphoria. I sure hope this unsubstantiated rumor is true.

Could I love this choice any more??? I don't think so. I've wanted W es C lark from the start and it always seemed as if he was being overlooked. He's as intellegent as Obama, doesn't have any political skeletons in his closet (that I'm aware of), seems to be quite calm and rational and would be a fabulous team player. Just a perfect partner for Obama. Plus he isn't afraid to speak the truth in very plain terms. Please, please, please don't let me be disappointed. Obama/Clark would be tough to beat.

LOL! You'd think these 18 million people would have retired Hillary's debt by now, wouldn't you? I mean, it's less than a buck a person to take care of that $13 million dollar loss she's about to take...

Senator O never gave anyone any impresssion about how he may go for a VP, other then his closest advisors. Even most of his campaign staff doesn't know how it's going to go.
