Democratic Convention Theme Taken From Wes Clark's PAC

My colleague Sam Stein reported earlier today that Barack Obama's VP choice will speak on the veteran-themed third night of the Democratic convention. As he noted, top Obama officials immediately poured water on any speculation that this coincidence necessarily signals a VP with military experience.

But here's one more interesting connection that hints ever-so-slightly toward the selection of a veteran veep, submitted by a sharp reader.

According to USA Today, the theme for Wednesday, Aug. 27 is "Securing America's Future," which just also happens to be the name of Gen. Wesley Clark's political action committee. (The URL for its website is simply "SecuringAmerica.com," but FEC filings list the full name.)

For what it's worth, an aide to Gen. Clark could not restrain near-riotous laughter when asked if there was anything behind the connection.

"I don't think it's anything more than an interesting coincidence," the aide said in between convulsions. "It's just because his PAC was named so well!"

Still, it's not as though the party is randomly naming each day of the convention. The theme for Thursday, when Obama will speak, is the familiar-sounding "Change You Can Believe In."

I've been hoping for a Wes Clark VP for a loooong time - either that or Secretary of Defense!

This is the best news ever. Tears came to my eyes. I supported Wes Clark the first time he ran. Now I get Obama and Wes too. He is the perfect counter balance to Obama. He is experienced. Anywho if you read my post on this subject then you know I strongly believe WesClark will be the VP it only makes sense to have him at the top of the ticket with O.

There are way too many strong signals that having WesClark on the ticket with O would send throughout the world.

Mc’Cain and his cronies would be shaking in there boots because WesClark a Gen’eral and a true American hero and not a phan’tom night on a horse who never made Ad’miral and who never lead or won wars would be trivialized.

Just because the theme echos Wes Clark's PAC doesn't necessarily mean a thing. This convention is about coming together, and the themes of many Democrats will be echoed.

But, wouldn't that be cool!

For all of you Hillary spoilers out there, I caucused for Wes Clark, who dropped out before the next step in our process. So I switched to Howard Dean (out of an arrangement with the Dean supporters and my second choice) only he dropped out before the actual final vote. So...all that was left was a coronation for John Kerry. It happens. That's how it works. Wes Clark didn't burn any bridges behind him and here we are. Food for thought.

Wesley Clark is a fine choice. He is the only high profile democrat that has gone on the offensive and rankled the republicans and he didn't back down. The ticket needs someone like that. I wonder if Obama is just plain "mean" enough to respond to the underhanded politics and half-truths he will increasingly be faced with, particularly if the race stays this close. let's get a win, and then we can appoint competent administrators to do what needs to be done.

I" completely agree with those people pulling for Wes Cla’rk. I believe that Cla’rk was not taken shots at John Mc’Cain on his own accord.

I strongly believe that O’s camp sent Cla’rk out to gauge the question on John Mc’Cain and his qualification for being the C I C "because he was shot down over Vi’etnam" I also see the node going to Cla’rk that would send a tidal wave of signals.

Those signals would be first and foremost John Mc"Cain and his military record, our Euro’pean Allis, Hill’ary Clin’ton supporters and the Change message.

If I am correct and I hope so then I can say I told you so".

Clark will be the perfect attack-dog. He's got balls and isn't afraid of the MSM's crap.
