The New York Daily News' gossip section today features a quote from someone who has seen Rielle Hunter's baby:

"She looks like John Edwards in a onesie."
***

Entertainment Tonight and The Insider will air interviews on Wednesday August 13 with the sisters of John Edwards' mistress Rielle Hunter (real name Lisa Druck). Roxanne and Melissa Druck took the opportunity to talk about various aspects of the scandal. According to a press release advertising the program:

Roxanne tells [Entertainment Tonight] that if she could speak to Elizabeth Edwards, "I'd giver her a big hug and say I'm sorry for what they both did. I feel a lot of empathy for Mrs. Edwards. I'd love to tell her how sorry I am for her children. I'm very ashamed my sister had an affair with such a public man."

...

Roxanne goes on to say, "I've seen the pictures of the baby she looks like John Edwards. She's got his eyes and jaw line and lips, but she does have Rielle's nose."

...

Last Friday, Sen. John Edwards acknowledged having had an affair with Hunter, but denied tabloid claims that he is the father of the baby girl Hunter delivered in February. "My niece is not a bastard, I just don't think it's right," Roxanne said.

This morning on CBS' The Early Show, Pigeon O'Brien, a friend of Rielle Hunter, said that John Edwards lied about the timeline of the affair and said she also believed that Edwards is the father of Hunter's child.

RODRIGUEZ: He says it started five months later when his campaign hired her.

O'BRIEN: Yeah, that's not true. That's not true. It started in the
winter of '06. They became involved at that point, not later in the summer when she was hired to work for the political action committee.

O'Brien also thinks Edwards is the father of Hunter's child. "I don't see any other explanation," O'Brien told Rodriguez. "She would not have a child with someone that she didn't love, and she loves him."

If Edwards was the nominee, this would have been devastating! He needs to be expelled from the Democratic Party for reckless behaviour! At least his girlfriend is having fun on her campaign financed vacation! Is that even legal?

"oh what a tangled web we weave ..."

I admit to following this story, its why I love a good "who dunnit" novel. It piques my curiosity. It has all the elements of a book you can't put down. I am emotionally invested in the characters and then the plot twists so I question my own perceptions. Its like a good summertime read that I will forget about as soon as I am through with it - as will most Americans.

Unfortunately for the Edwards family this will cause much pain and suffering. It is not my commenting on it that is responsible for the nightmare JE has brought on himself and his family.

I felt empathy for EE in the beginning. Then I felt duped by her possible involvement in the cover-up. Now I'm intensely curious what and when this tragic figure knew of the affair and how much the mother bear in her has to do with the story. I wonder if JE is so caught up in his lies that he is still lying to his wife about the baby. (this is crass but perhaps he told RH to keep quiet about the DNA of the child so that EE wouldn't divorce him and take half of the money. - just my projection of the plot)
The lying is like a sore that won't heal or that unease one feels when you something doesn't add up.

Talk about being a hypocrite! McCain is the presumptive Republican nominee for President. Edwards is currently a civilian, not a Senator nor a Presidential candidate. McCain has been rumored to having an affair while campaigning for the Presidency. Aren't you the least bit interested in knowing if the rumor is based in fact? Or are you a simple hypocrite?
}}}}}}}}}}}}

In other words, you think a "fishing expedition" is in order?? Based on completely unconfirmed rumors and political innuendo???

If Edwards is a "nobody" as you imply, why was he going to have a prime time speech at the Dem Convention??

The simple fact is, this isn't about sex... It isn't about LYING about sex... The Edwards issue is now about embezzlement and/or misappropriation of almost a million dollars of campaign funds and donations..

The old "yea, but..." defense is lame and inherently self-defeating....

Edwards, blah blaah blah. I'm not saying what he did was right or moral. What I am saying is that those on the right are way too hypocritical and lack objectivity. Wasn't the press on a "fishing expedition" with Edwards? Why not McCain?

Why does the right feel good about Edwards being exposed, yet think affairs by those on the right are no big deal. Henry Hyde presided of Clinton's impeachment hearing. He was a hypocrite. So was Newt Gingrich. So was Bob Livingston.

How about all those hypocrites on the right regarding our President lying us into a war? Where's the serious investigation there? Or is that nothing but another "fishing expedition?"

"Yea, but...." "Yea, but...." "Yea, but...."

None of that has anything to do with Edwards' embezzlement of nearly a million dollars of campaign funds in order to pay his mistress and co-conspirators..

If the Left had ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER, they would acknowledge the wrong doing, get the criminal issues settled and move on... John Q Public would respect the Left a LOT more if that happened...

But this constant attempt and excuses, mitigation and justification is just making the Left look like ridiculous hypocrites...

great -- mccain has been "rumored" to having an affair. obama has been "rumored" to being a manchurian candidate, a muslim sleeper waiting to take over the US. that's why they call them rumors. until you prove anything, it's not the basis for taking any action.

Everytime I see a photo of Ms. Hunter, all that runs through my mind is "Look at her, now look at Elizabeth---what was he thinking???!!!" Obviously, John wasn't using his (bigger) head ...

As long as the mother does not allow a DNA test, she'll continue to be supported in a grand way. If paternity is established as JE, then he'll have to pay child support but nothing the likes of what she's getting now. And she has publically said she believes she and JE will have a life together in the future so she would be inclinded to do whatever she need to to keep that possibility alive. Further embarassing the family would not give her points toward being the next Mrs. She's playing a good game. And I expect certain promises have been made to her for her cooperation.

I never thought of all that. What you say makes good sense, and makes my opinion of Edwards plummet even lower. I guess in a small way, I feel betrayed. I really believed he could do a lot for the poor and the country in general.

are you kidding? he's a multi-millionaire. child support is not taxable to the mother. plus, he's shown he can pay $15K/mo. i would think he would have to pay at least that to the child -- for the next 18 years and the kid will share in his will.

how long do you think the hush money will be paid.

oh, yeah, and wouldn't it be much more honorable to know and beneficial for the kid to know who her daddy is and enjoy his company during waking hours rather than in a hotel room after midnight.

The other shoe is still waiting to drop: Why did Edwards admit to an affair? He must have been coerced into it.

Ande Druck's refusal to take a paternity test that would not identify the true father of the baby but which would clear Edwards (and set Elisabeth's mind at rest) is either testimony to Druck's giddy and self-centered worldview or to the fact that the paternity test has already happened.

I would bet that it has happened, or why else would Edwards' campaign be sending her so much money?

As soon as I heard that Hunter did not want a DNA test I thought it was a ploy to keep the story alive. When someone wants the test and someone else doesn't, it is usually the one who doesn't who has something to hide. Hunter seems like the one who wants this thing to live on. I will bet somewhere in the back of her mind she thinks this child can bring John back to her. When the DNA is confirmed Hunter will fade away into footnote status. Ask Monica, Donna Rice, Spitzers girl. Hunter seems to thrive on this stuff. Could be a money thing too. Someone will pay for the story, pictures etc. Remember how long we hung in there to find out Anna Nicole's baby daddy? Remember how much Howard Stern gained just in that uncertain period? This is our society for better or worse.

Just like John McCain is crucified daily for dumping his crippled wife for a much younger heiress?
}}}}}}}}}}}

That was 30+ years ago and has already been discussed extensively by John McCain himself.

I find the hypocrisy of the hysterical Left a constant source of amazement...

Back when the Foley scandal broke, there were many on the right who pointed to the STUDDs affair.. The Left simply pooh-poohed the comparison because the Studds affair was 10-12 years previously..

Now that a Democrat Golden Boy is in the crosshairs, now the hysterical Left wants to go back THREE TIMES as long to point at a non-news event concerning McCain...

Hypocrites....

McCain has based his campaign around personal valor, and not devotion to a cancer-striken wife. Cindy has not marched out and trumpeted her husband's trustworthiness, while knowing him to be a self-serving liar.

There's only one set of hypocrites relevant to this story: The Edwards.

Now, they need to go away - for good.

McCain did NOT "discuss it extensively"! He put a real nice spin on it, never mentioning his first wife's massive injuries and extensive weight gain..(a real turnoff to a flyboy) He tried to make it seem so cute, how they met and romantically lied about their respective ages. Yes, McCain loves to talk about his "bad boy" past, he always has a little smirk of pride, like he's still getting back at Daddy & Grandpa, stodgy admirals that they were.

And by the way, I don't care if it was 30 years ago, or three years ago. There's one truth you are missing here ....a truth I drummed into my daughter's head....

MEN DON'T CHANGE. EVER.

Is there a reason why this story is continuing to be published? Is John Edwards running for a political office that I don't know about? As far as I am concerned since he is no longer in the running for president nor holds a political office, his private affairs are now just that, private. In fact, I don't care if politicians have affairs or not because thats what many men do, its something that we don't like to hear or believe but it is the truth of the matter.

I think it's still a story because there's been no closure to it. there's still the question of whether he lied about when the affair started and if the baby is his or not.

"...because that's what many men do" Huh, i think you need to check yourself. Many women have affairs too, it's what PEOPLE do.

If we go by your logic, then it's safe to say that women like to date married men.

Until a DNA test is done, there will be no true determination of the real father. Any comments are speculation. Anyone that is talking to the press about this private matter is obviously looking for notoriety

Gee, I wonder why there has been no paternity test? I wonder how much of the left's donations have gone to keep the test off the screen?

Ah, how they forget who they support

Edwards fell for the oldest trick in the book: Have the married man's child and maybe he'll leave his wife.

My heart goes out to Elizabeth Edwards.
