The New York Daily News' gossip section today features a quote from someone who has seen Rielle Hunter's baby:

"She looks like John Edwards in a onesie."
***

Entertainment Tonight and The Insider will air interviews on Wednesday August 13 with the sisters of John Edwards' mistress Rielle Hunter (real name Lisa Druck). Roxanne and Melissa Druck took the opportunity to talk about various aspects of the scandal. According to a press release advertising the program:

Roxanne tells [Entertainment Tonight] that if she could speak to Elizabeth Edwards, "I'd giver her a big hug and say I'm sorry for what they both did. I feel a lot of empathy for Mrs. Edwards. I'd love to tell her how sorry I am for her children. I'm very ashamed my sister had an affair with such a public man."

...

Roxanne goes on to say, "I've seen the pictures of the baby she looks like John Edwards. She's got his eyes and jaw line and lips, but she does have Rielle's nose."

...

Last Friday, Sen. John Edwards acknowledged having had an affair with Hunter, but denied tabloid claims that he is the father of the baby girl Hunter delivered in February. "My niece is not a bastard, I just don't think it's right," Roxanne said.

This morning on CBS' The Early Show, Pigeon O'Brien, a friend of Rielle Hunter, said that John Edwards lied about the timeline of the affair and said she also believed that Edwards is the father of Hunter's child.

RODRIGUEZ: He says it started five months later when his campaign hired her.

O'BRIEN: Yeah, that's not true. That's not true. It started in the
winter of '06. They became involved at that point, not later in the summer when she was hired to work for the political action committee.

O'Brien also thinks Edwards is the father of Hunter's child. "I don't see any other explanation," O'Brien told Rodriguez. "She would not have a child with someone that she didn't love, and she loves him."

Oh how the majority of posters' reactions would be different if it was a Republican in this situation...

True, if John Edwards were republican, he'd be crucified daily. But heck that's politics.

Just like John McCain is crucified daily for dumping his crippled wife for a much younger heiress?

This is not a story at all. No facts, just people looking for the spotlight.

She knew he was married. This kind of stuff happens everyday. Such a high profile example ought to be put to the use of showing young girls that chasing married men is not the best idea.

It is his baby (wonder how much she is getting paid to NOT take that paternity test?). Oh, and Cheney ordered the Anthrax attacks. Simple answers to simple questions.

Enjoy.

I will admit to my own curiosity about whether John Edwards has told the truth about this affair, even while also admitting it is none of my business and, furthermore, inconsequential to anything important in the world. That said, just because the sister says the baby looks like Edwards "from pictures" and the friend says Rielle just wouldn't have baby with someone she didn't love - well, those statements amount to nothing. What respectable journalist would even suggests those opinions had anything to do with the truth?

John Edwards is a nice guy and is only human. When the wife was out of commission , he needed to get his wick dipped. He didn't love Rielle, he loves his wife but he has needs. Can't anyone understand that? Give him a break!

I think many people are missing the big picture of this story. John Edwards' lies, deception and silence skewed the Democratic primaries and gives Hillary Clinton more ammunition to call for a delegate vote at the convention.
If Edwards told the public about his affair when he told his family (supposedly in 2006), he would most likely have not won any delegates in the primaries and would not really have been a factor. Those delegates that went to Edwards would have either gone to Clinton or Obama. If they went to Clinton, she either would have been the nominee or she still would have had a shot at becoming one.
She has every right at the convention to call for a delegate vote.

From polling results in Iowa, Edwards' voters overwhelmingly preferred OBAMA as their second choice. Obama would have won, with or without him.

In addition, suppose this came out after the Edwards campaign began. Would Hillary REALLY have benefited from a national focus on the harmful effects of presidential infidelity?

Or discussions about the good and bad ways for a wife to deal with a cheating husband, especially when he has a political career?

Would she really have benefited for voters to be reminded that Bill had an affair in 1992 that almost torpedoed HIS career---then went on to make it so much worse in the WH?

If anyone should whine about the Edwards' story, it should be Dodd, Biden and Richardson. They probably would have gotten a much better look if Edwards' infidelity had rattled voters about both him AND the Clintons.

No she doesn't - if she has any understanding of responsibility and leadership then she should understand that the time has long since come to be a follower.

These are the facts as I interpret them.

Edwards is another politician who thinks with the head within his genitals. Like Bill Clinton, he also has a larger head that he also uses to benefit himself and often mankind in the bargain. Unlike Bill, Edwards has seen the light about the DLC. The DLC is the MIC and Neocon-enabling Corporate wing of the "Democratic" party. This wing, now "led" by Harold Ford, Jr. for obvious reasons. has tried to triangulate Obama to the DLC position on many issues....the latest being Georgia and the re-emergence of a cold war with Russia. All the MIC officials in the Clinton administration are rearing their ugly heads. The MSM and the DLC despise Senator Obama, as do the Clintons. Bill was fond of repeating the Italian Mafia mantra...".keep your friends close and your enemies even closer."

If Obama wins, he must "flip-flop" to the DLC position on many matters. The DLC Congressional elections require it in order to elect and re-elect neocon-enabling DINO's to office in November.

In defense of The Huffington Post: The people who complain about coverage of the Edwards matter should remember that the Olympic results are headlined on the front page. Despite the assertions that Huffpo is a forum for serious political discourse, the truth is, there is a lot of entertainment stuff here that is more entertaining than much that is found on television. Whether it's Edwards' member "issues" or the conflict between Russia and Georgia, we are all just basically spectators whose only real power is to simply speculate on matters we watch unfold.

Edwards makes this a story by his continual lying. He denies being the father of the child yet conveniently there will be no DNA testing to "protect the privacy of the child'. Interpret to read "protect John Edwards."

He doesn't say where the money came from to pay her. Campaign funds? Every time Edwards opens his mouth and lies again, he continues the story.

The coverage of Edward's descent cuts two ways. Because of his "eeking out the truth" approach, rather than transparency, the news push doesn't let up and, because of the media's relentless pursuit of a even more obscure figure in '06, Mark Foley, it would be wildly asymmetrical if the media spent anything less than 6 months on this issue.
In one sense, the story pales in comparison to Russia's brutal force against Georgia and the oil pipeline serving Europe within, so it is surreal that the story is getting so much "ink" ... in another sense it brings into play some of the same forces that, on the Republican side in '06, caused the public to break trust with that party.

No one person can make claims stating Edwards is or is not the father until paternity has been established.

If he is the father, support should be established to the child. He owes the mother nothing and his life with is family will be his business and his alone.

So a sister has only seen pictures of the baby? Wasn't there when it was born, didn't go and visit, nothing? Interesting, especially since the sister is in a very public thing, maybe she'd want to go and help out instead of being a..... well instead of being a profiteer.

I had the same response. These sisters aren't close enough for Roxanne to actually visit Rielle and hold her neice? How old is this baby? If she was conceived in 2006, she's at least a year old.

Why is paternity even a matter for discussion in this day and age? If it is true that Rielle Hunter refuses a paternity test, she must have doubts.

I hate it when the other woman is slammed as a defense to allegations of cheating, but I gotta say, Hunter is a piece of work. She gets $15,000 a month, more than many women get in child support in a year, and she wants that to continue. That's not child support, it is hush money, and there is no longer anything to hush up. File a paternity suit, John Edwards. Get that DNA test.

I am curious which of Rielle's BFFs is the National Enquirer's source.

Is it possible to find a decent woman to cheat with? One who has as much to lose by public disclosure as the man does? That's what Republicans do. Cheat with a fellow politician's wife who enjoys the perks, not someone who sees your wealth and puts pin holes in her diaphragm.

Why didn't these people go on Jerry Springer and I am sure Maury would be glad to help. It was
Rielle who said no DNA, test, why, Edwards said okay, so why stall, she will still get child support although I doubt she'll get $l15,000 a month, Rielle needs to get a job and move on. By the by
the picture of Young looks a little like Edwards, could he be the father after all, he's being paid
to run all over the country, from who, the tabloids I hear, a lot of money to run away from the
tabloids, with the children in tow, very strange..
