Four Horsies

Earlier today, John McCain gave one of his famous Straight Talk Express Town Hall Extravaganza Applesauce Chat Revival Shows in York, Pennsylvania, and during the Q&A section, said something jarring with regard to his "conservative stance" on issues. Seeking to reassure the questioner that he has only the best intentions for fans of hardcore conservative judicial activism, he told the questioner that there were going to be two-to-three vacancies on the Supreme Court soon. This was, in McCain's words, "According to people who decide these things."

But SCOTUS justices have lifetime appointments! So, who are "people" that "decide these things?" Absent any other explanation, one has to assume that McCain is in close contact with the Grim Reaper himself. It makes me wonder what McCain knows of the plans that Pestilence and Famine have for America between now and the year 2013. Naturally, you can pretty much assume that McCain is following War on Twitter.

I don't get where the idea of "lifetime appointments" comes from. No Office is the US Govt was ever intended to have such. Sure, the Constitution isn't as clear on it, saying simply they serve in good behaviour. But then, the same rules that apply to federally appointed attorneys, could apply to the Supremes as well. ;) After all, they have to answer first and foremost, to the Legislative (Congress) and Executives (President) branches of government. Which means, one fires, other hires.

the whole concept is to insulate them from the politics that pervades the other branches... they don't actually have to pander to anyone to get elected, get their way...

Somebody should ask him for clarification at the next town hall, and then see if he really is referring to their ages, because that would put him in the same boat. He is already way pass retirement age.

So, from his comments we are to gather that age counts?!!! Excellent way to frame the discussion!

Each comment like this one raises an alarm that does not go away. Imagine some people ACTUALLY want to vote for this wrinkley white haired dude. They love him.

To know know him is not to love love him, to know him is to wonder how on earth he is the Repubican presumptive nominee. Scary

Well, possibly, he's talking to the justices themselves, since they can retire.

Well when will the American Public hear, if at all of this gaffe, from the mainstream media. Mccain is a fraud and a user. He used Cindy Beer to care for himself. He list no assets other than his income from the senate plus it is reported they have many homes (houses) that he could not afford on his salary. If he was on the street with a woman like this he would be called a P*mp.

can't u people see, this is going to have to be a word of mouth, viral, email campaign in the stretch. msm is so in the tank for 0ld that 0 won't have a chance hoping for positive print. The debates will be all he has the msm can't mess with that.

William O. Douglas was my hero.

He stayed on the court even after a stroke, because he didn't want to give Nixon or Ford the ability to name his replacement. Unfortunately, he became so incapacitated that the other justices had to have an intervention to get him to resign.

Fortunately, he was replaced by Stevens. Hang in there, Mr. Stevens! Help's coming this November!

Better tell the nut jobs in Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, etc.
They still haven't figured out who took their jobs.

Should he be bringing attention to age and death? Sounds like the caucasian race card to me.
