Clooney

CNN:

George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson have more in common than their A-list star status: both have had to shoot down reports they're e-mail buddies of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

Clooney is flatly denying a report in the Los Angeles Times that he "frequently text messages the Illinois senator with whom he's been friends for many years."

"I have never texted or e-mailed Senator Obama. And I'll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise," Clooney said in a statement. "I've spent more time with Senator McCain (he did my TV show) then I have with Senator Obama. I would hope that my friend John McCain would join me in condemning this kind of politics."

This report originated, I believe, in the UK, and I think the LA Times picked it up from that. I know I read it (was a link off of a different page) several days before I saw a reference to the LA Times item. The original piece (and I don't remember the name of the paper, maybe "something Telegraph") said that the two e-mailed at least a couple times a week and that Clooney was giving Obama advice on foreign policy. (That, to me, is a really scary thought... come on! That's why you have foreign policy advisors!)

So -- blame the UK paper before the Times!

Dear George,
Can you text me instead?

I hope they haven't been sending Kwame Kilpatrick type text messages...

...Then proceeded to prank the entire reporting staff, sticking "Kick me" signs on all their backs. Brad Pitt was not available for comment, but he did offer up a single suggestion as communicated through Clooney: "I Suck".

Great answer, George. You shut it down. Hope McCain takes your challenge and codemns these tactics. He's so "honorable," afterall!

Despite what some of you may have heard, I too, have never texted or e-mailed Senator Obama.

Did George Clooney just throw Obama under the bus?

It is arrogant for Clooney to refuse texting from Obama. Perhaps Clooney isracist.

Tangent: Can we throw the phrase "throw... under the bus" under the bus? Is there a more hackneyed and overused phrase?

This kind of raised O in my eyes. I love Clooney and heavens knows he's a heck of a lot smarter and politically active than Scarlett Johansson. Oh, well...

good grief, since when did it become a big deal to communicate with each other?

This is very unfortunate news, because Clooney is definitely one VP that I wouldn't mind looking at for the next 8 years!

Calm down, Clooney is helping to establish the fact that John McCain is the "Celebrity Candidate" not Barack Obama!

This really isn't a story at all, is it?

But I have to ask this one question: who is emailing and texting McSturgis? NO ONE. He can't use the technology. It amazes me how few people are bothered by this. It does matter in 2008.
