The Obama campaign released a new attack ad on Wednesday that -- as the Senator has tried to do during the debate over the surge -- ties economic troubles at home to McCain's support of the Iraq war.

Titled "Book," the spot reads: "Economics by John McCain. Support George Bush 95 percent of the time. Keep spending $10 billion a month for the war in Iraq, while the Iraqis sell oil for record prices, giving Iraq a $79 billion oil surplus and hurting our economy."

The ad plays off of McCain's self-proclaimed weakness on economic matters and is the second harsh spot the Obama campaign has aired in as many weeks. The Iraq angle is a curious one. Rather than going back to the war authorization -- and, obviously, avoiding a debate on the surge -- Obama is homing in on the pocketbook pull of the war.

A spokesperson for the Obama writes that the spot will start airing on Thursday in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin -- a significant buy.

UPDATE: The McCain campaign responds by attempting to tie Obama and Bush, though there seems to be a bit of friction to the idea that the Senator was "in lockstep" with Bush "nearly half the time."

"In the Senate, Barack Obama has voted in lockstep with President George W. Bush nearly half the time, including the Bush-Cheney Energy bill which gave close to 3 billion dollars in new giveaways to Big Oil - a terrible policy that John McCain opposed. The truth is Barack Obama's plan is a job killing machine that ignores the struggling economy and raises taxes on family savings, social security and small businesses," said Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for McCain.

I cannot believe Obama's gall. He constantly cheats throughout this campaign, resorting to policy adverts and the truth, leaving McCain playing politics in the mud all by himself.
If Obama wants to show the world he can be a politician he needs to get down with the swine and start splashing around in his own effluence.

Then what will Mc Slime do? Start telling the truth? Run an above board, honorable campaign? Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue? The connotation of the word republican would have to be redefined.

Although I have always supported BO...I have some questions.

1. If there is an upper class....middle class...who is defined as the "lower" class and what is being done to assist them.

or
2. Do we just have the have's and the have not's.

he is well aware of the poor. and he also has plans to help. however, the public doesn't want to hear about that day in and day out. everyone is looking for their gold at the end of the rainbow. everyone thinks they are going to be millionaires as some point in their lives (not) most don't even want to believe they are poor or the delusional ar ses wouldn't have voted republican all of these years.

btw...are you asking 0ld the same thing?

that is a good question- i'm sure there is really no "lower" Class- so to speak, i think way back when- when that term was coinded, they looked at the poor and homeless...etc as lower class citizens (and races may have been apart of that, chinese, native americans etc. long long ago) and that term just stuck like tons of other weird terms for things. but, the first thing to do to help assist these "lower" class citizens, of whom you speak of is to give every American health insurnace and the chance to got to school, and devote more resources to homeless shelters and the likes, but if you listen to some people around here, that is going to not only take tax payer money but also, taxpayer's time (volunteering) and some don't think it is worth it, even though the more people you lift out of poverty to work the bigger your taxpayer base will be to keep providing for those programs, but some don't care and only worry about themselves, because they have all the money and others don't matter

I had a conversation with an acquaintance (no friend). I mentioned that I believe that education is the key to the revival of our country (and the world).

He looked me in the eye and said "Oh, we don't want THEM to be educated. Then they will know too much.

I didn't even ask to whom he was referring, I was too busy walking away.

In the United States, the country where a basic education is free, the country that promotes capitalism, there should be no "poor" class or impoverished people. Once the Democratic government gets trade flowing equally to and from the US, and as soon as our economy gets back on track, and our educational system is improved, there should be no impoverished people.
You did hear "better schools" right?

McCain has resorted to name calling and ridiculousness because he has nothing solid to hit Obama on. The current administration has indirectly endorsed some of Obama's foreign policy positions leaving McCain out in the rain.

Yes, keep tying this war, Bush/McClone and the economy together and we will have a landslide in November.

Attack ads are fine when they honestly hone in on the flaws or your opponent's plans and positions. Voters deserve an honest assessment of the candidate.

McCain has resorted to name calling and ridiculousness. Obama is responding with a serious look at how Iraq is damaging the average American family.

Obama is the sign of someone who wants to lead because they have a vision to help the nation as opposed to those who want to hang on and possibly ponder a one term pledge.

The choice has never been simpler.

I don't understand what Obama has been waiting for. All he has to do is keep ramming home the fact that McCain's policies are exactly the same ones that have put our country in this situation. McCain has been owning the message the last few weeks by making this election about anything other than policy. Hopefully this ad signals a change in Obama's strategy.

Remember there is 2.5 months until the election. I think Obama is pacing himself well. McCain on the other hand is trying to peak too early & by the time November rolls around, his tired, old attacks will be just old news.

I like this one. McCain should be tied to Bush every chance we get. Also, the fact that his advisers got $1billion collectively in fees from coroporations while the corporations paid no taxes in the last 10 years should be drilled in every American's head. Hmmmm, no wonder CEO's get millions while workers are being laid off.

It's much better than McCain's new slogan:

"We are all Georgians"

When McCain said country first I did not know he was referring to Georgia.

Yeah, gotta agree with you there. Not sure I like that last line, but overall it's pretty good. I especially like that they've included citations for all of their assertions.

I think the middle class line is effective. It's that demographic that his econonomic plan is largely geared to and they are the voting wedge that will most likely decide things. He's just trying to get their attention.
