Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima and Chinese gymnast Yang Wei led a golden day for Asia on Thursday that showcased the continent's growing sports might.

Kitajima, Asia's greatest swimmer, stole the spotlight from Michael Phelps with an unprecedented "double-double" in the Olympics breaststroke, adding the 200 meters gold to earlier victory in the 100, after wins in both events in Athens 2004.

Very shallow. The Olympics aren't about medal counts. They're about putting differences aside to partake in friendly competition. Sure winning is nice, but especially in the case of the Olympics, it's not everything.

The olympics are corrupted by commercialism.

My house is an "olympics free zone."

I won't watch it and I don't care about it.

The contest is among athletes doing their best.

It is not a nation v. nation event.

Stop being jingoistic.

Looking at population sizes, shouldn't China be winning the medal count?

It's only logical.

China 22; US 10. But the Olympics isn't about politics, right? And this morning The Boston Globe's headline lamented the gymnastics team having to settle for a Silver Medal. Not —hurray! they won a silver medal!—but, what a shame, only a silver medal. How i despise the screwed up values of the Olympics.

Look kids, the "hate America" crowd is now posting gold medal counts to meaningless sporting events. If the medal count was reversed, the US team would be accused of cheating.

China is being accused of cheating for winning some of their golds. It's the Olympics, and it is sport; there will always be scapegoats and excuses for the losers.

I don’t care how you try and frame it, I couldn’t be more proud of our country and the athletes representing us.

Go USA!!!!
