Politico:

Top social conservative leaders in key battleground states are urging John McCain not to pick a running mate who supports abortion rights, warning of dire consequences from a Republican base already unenthused about their nominee.

McCain's comments Wednesday to the Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes that former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge's pro-abortion rights views wouldn't necessarily rule him out quickly found their way into the in-boxes of Christian conservatives. For those who have been anxiously awaiting McCain's pick as a signal of his ideological intentions, there was deep concern that their worst fears about the Arizona senator may be realized.

Oh, cripes! The right wing Christian wackos need to stop worrying, at least until the convention. It doesn't matter what McCain says today? He'll contradict himself, and the rest of his campaign, on a daily basis all the way to the podium in Minneapolis. The religion-mongers just need to make sure that one of their people is the last person to speak to McCain before he takes the stage. Problem solved. Unless McCain takes a cell phone call on the way up the stairs.

Could it be that McCain is not a flip-flopper? That maybe he simply doesn't remember that he had other, different positions previously? Maybe he's not cynical. Maybe he's not indecisive. Maybe...

You know, I don't think that Sen. Craig is flying in to the MN Airport. The restrooms are off-limits to him.

Go Johnny, go!

McCain the Republican Pro-Choice (Abortion) Candidate. Wow, this is big..... way to go McCain. Women will forget about the totality of your lifetime career and flock to your campaign in droves. Wooohooo! Johnny has it partially figured out... Women won't need CHANGE(educational reform, universal healthcare, job equality, economic equality) if we don't have children to protect. Now, if he can just figure out how to amass an army without our children as sacrifices to endless stupid wars. Yeah, John McCain pro-choice my a$$.

"Their worst fears about the Arizona senator may be realized"

Their worst fear is that he may pick a pro-choice running mate? I'd think their worst fear would be about his rapid mental decline.

I just watched NPR saying that seniors are filing for bankruptcy more than ever before; many are skipping meals or meds; these bible thumping, single issue, social conservative = Religious fanatics their mission is to feed and cloth the needy; moreso than running about crying for a life that is not here.

If the mega churches offered services that people needed and spend their capital in the way of their god, they'd have far more influence on the lives of those they help including pregnant women and the men that are "responsible" ; heck maybe even influence to the point of reducing unwanted pregnancies.

If legal abortions were ended today we would have a giant back alley step into 1950s with unsafe abortions, as it stands many states have safe baby drop off locations and when this is done the woman is hunted like a criminal, where is the mega church?

This year we have heard of several soldiers killing their preganant lovers; this is a reflection of society where is the mega church?

Not a single one of the 10 commandments can be legislated to think or act othewise is failing in your faith, killing has been against the law since Kane killed Able.

Suddenly laws against abortion will work? nope mega churches ya gotta put in the work and WWJD passing laws was not primary in his mission.

Now get McCain and go pray for rain

"Passing laws was not primary in his mission" is absolutely spot-on. Why? Because "the letter killeth......" (2 Corinthians 3:6), and "for by works of the law shall no flesh be justified" (Galatians 2:16). In addition, "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not" (Ecclesiastes 7:20).

Unfortunately, institutional churches are obsessed with tithes, that is there ultimate focus. An obsession with money, translates into other central and peripheral issues, like holding people accountable for ancient ritualistic concepts and regulations, that have since passed from the scene, long long ago.

Mega Churches could voluntarily go through a devolutionary phase, into multiple Home Churches, spread out across the landscape (Acts 12:12, Acts 20:20, 1 Corinthians 16:19). Let's face it, churches are so named, because they are not businesses, and we all know businesses are taxed.

Small Home Churches is the place to be. Why? Because - "Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law" (Galatians 5:23).

In Home Churches, you spend time with God, and how to possibly help another. There's little time to be concerned, or worried sick over who might get selected for a particular Vice-Presidental slot.

Maverick jinks left, then right. Nothing can take him down. He's hugging the flight plan, but his wingman's way out of position, trying to attract some allies.

Then, at his six o'clock, he sees a tiny bright flare blossom, rise from its base, and grow larger and larger, on an arcing course towards the small of his back. Should he ditch the wingman? Or will the wingman take the hit for him?

Could so-called "Christian conservatives" find it in their puny hearts to care about something besides somebody else's womb??

Jesus never said "go forth and legislate my will." And since he said NOTHING ever about abortion or equal rights for gay people, could they try caring about what he did command them to do? Love each other as Jesus loves you, care for the least of these.

Churxhes can't do that. What do what Jesus commanded, no way. No profit in it. What they have decided is God's word is not what he actually said but what he didn't say. He didn't talk about Abortion or Gay rights so in their world this must be the most important thing. Gave up on Christians long ago. They love to presch but don't live as Christ commanded. The bit about loving thy neighbor as thyself, can't do that they may be gay, or belong to another church, or even another political party.

When Christians actually do as they were commanded I might listen, till then they are noise.

Oh John, did someone let you talk on your cell phone again?
We know the maverick is a myth, so was this you wandering off plan again or is a ploy to get your name in the news again?

Maybe McCain should pick a running mate that flip flops on this and other issues as much as he does — keep the base confused.

Letter to the RNC

Republican base that is unenthused? That is an understatement. How many thousands of the republican base are supporting the Democratic nominee? I know of a few Senators and Congressmen. If the senate and congress are jumping ship, hmmm I wonder how many loyal Republicans such as myself that have jumped ship. Yes I am one of them, I am ashamed to admit it, but yes for 35 years I voted republican. Mostly while in the Army because of my pay and benefits, but McCain has voted against the military right and left. Also Bush, wow, what a joke. Although I do strongly dislike Bush, McCain scares the cra* out of me. So Yes, we have and are jumping ship faster than you know, I know of about 400 retired Military that have jumped. This tells me that you all are in serious trouble with the military, some senators and congressmen and countless regular everyday folks. You can not respond fast enough to get Mr McCain undercontrol nor can you react fast enough to those grandstanding representatives when it comes to off shore drilling. I am working against you as hard as you scramble to repair the damage. Good luck to you all.

Thank you for your comment. It gives me hope that there are many intelligent, patriotic Republicans who have come to their senses. We can celebrate a new America together in a couple of months!

I hope he picks a serious pro lifer... and then, before the election, it turns out the pro lifer is a cannibal and a necrophiliac. I wonder if the pro lifers would still support McCain. This is my social experiment for this year.

I don't expect McCain to win, so the experiment would have no bad side effects on the rest of us.
