Obama

Barack Obama's campaign has been encouraging supporters to "make history" by helping the campaign pass the 2,000,000 donor mark. Today they reached their goal:

Today we achieved something amazing -- 2,000,000 donors owning a piece of this campaign.

In the face of John McCain's low road tactics, it's more important than ever to keep our movement growing and show the power of millions of grassroots supporters coming together to work for change.

Thank you for all you have done to build this movement.

As campaign manager David Plouffe said in an earlier fundraising email, "Two million donors is an incredible number -- a number that was previously unimaginable for presidential campaigns. And it's a number this campaign never dreamed we could reach before the convention."

Barack Obama's campaign has been encouraging supporters to "make history" by helping the campaign pass the 2,000,000 donor mark. Today they reached their goal: Today we achieved something amazing --...

What a joke!!This isn't a democracy anymore...this tool (and all the others) are buying the presidency!
Add a new slot on the ballot and label it NONE OF THE ABOVE...if that slot gets more votes than Nobama or McCain ,start over and choose new people!

Buying the campaign? You mean like big business and oil have for the past six elections? At least the only people Obama has to answer too is the two million of us who pledged our help. We won't get thrown under the bus because some oil lobbyist has called in a favor. No, that crap was for the past eight years and that crap is over!

What a doltish remark! The fact that individuals actually can, and demonstrably do, contribute to the candidate of their choice is a wonderful turn of events in American politics. It's not just the rich and the corporations who are having a say in who gets elected, it's every one of us.

Now for a little perspective, while that is a new to politics number, there are nearly 300,000,000 people living here, that means it is a small percentage who have decided that their contribution to the election matters. We need to keep growing those donor numbers so the donations can become ever smaller per individual donor. The more people who participate, the smaller the donation needs to be and the more democratic.

The elections will show whether this new found participation is a sea change or not. I suspect that HairyReid is simply one of those people who can't find a sufficient number of voters to agree with his political ideas to get someone elected.

No. Obama is getting funding from supporters with no strings attached.

Buying the Presidency is when you fill the Straight Talk Express with lobbyists who hop off at each stop to make promises from John in exchange for cash.

WRONG. Wall Street is giving the bulk of its donations to Obama. Wall Street doesn't give anybody millions of dollars unless it expects something in return.

This is why the Hillary -ites had better watch their step at the Convention. Anytime the folks are willing to put their "money where their mouths are, you'd better not mess with them. Yes, "We're mad as hell, and we're NOT gonna take it anymore"......... Listening, McCain, GOP?

umm. yep. If you people give 2 dollars, that's 4 million dollars, now most people are giving him 25, 50, 100-250 dollars.

@ 50 dollars each that's 100 million dollars.

My family has donated $25 to $75 per month since 2/2007. I know we aren't the only ones. When it started to make a difference, contributors were happy to keep it up. If you've been alive for a while, you know that what we have done in the past hasn't worked. The idea that ordinary people with a common purpose can do extraordinary things is being played out here.

Get back cynics, there is a change in progress here.

You'd be better off disputing things that aren't on record, independently confirmed, and, you know, "facts".

Otherwise, you just sound like yet another of those so insular and closed-minded they insist that "supporting the troops isn't patriotism, supporting the criminal president is!"

Most of the Two million are folks like me who won't come close to donating even a quarter of the maximum. We small donors have collectively given over $100 million to Obama, and in my book that qualifies as "millions and millions of $$."

We'll probably add another $50 million to that total between now and Election Day. We expect our more affluent fellow donors to at least triple that amount.

On a list of a (baker's) dozen reasons Obama will win, # 2:

2. The Organization Factor: Obama has built a remarkable organization, in part through using the Internet. Nothing quite like it has been seen before in its capacity to raise money, generate enthusiasm, and get out the vote. For more on the uniqueness of Obama’s organization, see Joshua Green’s piece, “The Amazing Money Machine” http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200806/obama-finance and Marc Ambinder’s “His Space” in The Atlantic http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200806/ambinder-obama

Posting for the very first time and I am very proud to say that I own an extremely tiny piece of this campaign. I am a permanent resident (I am Indian American) right now and so I'm not eligible to vote yet but I so wish I could vote. I have been doing my part by trying to ask people (who don't care to vote) to vote for Obama.

Its funny, I was telling a friend (Obama supporter too) that I often have an urge to roll my windows down while driving, at the light and asking the neighbor who he/she would vote for.

I will be eligible for citizenship next year (wish it was this year).

I love reading posts and responses to them and I am almost addicted to Huffingtonpost.

I was a former Republican who had never donated to either party. This election has me truly excited about restoring intelligence, competence, and pragmatism to our government. A better use for my donations to the Obama campaign during the primary and general elections cannot be found. Ralph Nadir (pun, not typo) once said that there was no difference between the two parties. Contrast the spellbinding narrative style of Audacity of Hope, replete with a deep understanding of society, economics, political reality, history, and science with the verbal stumble-step of John McCain's tangential sound-bite.

You actually typed the words "spellbinding narrative style of Audacity of Hope", and you want people to believe you were a Republican? Come on, even your fellow liberals aren't going to fall for that.

In a nation of 301 million Obama's donors constitute two thirds of one percent of the population, and there is research to indicate that even small donors are far more affluent than the average American. No doubt lots more demographic research is being done as we speak. When all is said and done and we have a good picture of where this money came from it will be shockingly clear how non-grassrootsy Obama's money stream is. It will be the great shame of the Democratic party.

The campaign never claimed the 2 million donors were poor people! I am sure people who donate money to a campaign are probably at least considered middle-class, and upper middle-class.

In this horrible economy, people with only a small amount of money can barely pay for gas, food, and other neccessities. In fact, people such as myself who are middle-class, but we do not have large sums of money, make tremendous sacrifices to donate money, volunteer time, and give assistance to the campaign in whatever ways we can.

We are truly GrassRoots participants! We are not paid staff, nor are we affiliated with corporations. Many of us are retired or we work at normal jobs.

The Demoratic Party will not be shamed by our participation in OUR DEMOCRACY!

I am poor! I have been out of work for nearly 14 months (just, like 6 days ago got a full time job) and have still given $5.00 of my unemployment benefits to help Barack. And now that I will finally have a steady income, I plan to give even more. He, is absolutely money well spent. So you see, it doesn't matter who the two million are, it matters that two million individuals took their time and hard earned money to make a statement. And a hell of a statement it is!

How stoopid! Can you sight any grassroot-based campaign funding of this magnitude in our 232-year history? You have the gall to talk about 301 million when in reality, this country has been governed by a few thousand people from the media, corporations and the monied class. The only person who should feel the shame is you for being so obtuse.
