CQ Politics:

Attorneys for the Federal Election Commission (FEC) have recommended giving Republican presidential candidate John McCain a pass on his decision earlier this year to withdraw from the federal public financing program for his campaign for the GOP nomination.

In a memo released today, the FEC attorneys suggested that McCain was not legally bound to stay in the system -- which pairs taxpayer funding with restrictive spending limits -- rejecting Democratic allegations that campaign loans he had received before renouncing public money were based on his participation in the funding program. The FEC attorneys concluded that McCain did not "unquestionably pledge" to stick to public funding as collateral for his loans and, therefore, did not violate the law by later withdrawing from the program.

Under normal circumstances, the law requires a vote of approval from a majority of FEC commissioners before a candidate could withdraw from the program, as noted in the lawyers' memo. But at the time McCain pulled out, at a crucial early juncture of the nominating campaign, the commission was operating with only two of six members, the result of a stalemate in the Senate over nominations of new members, which left it without the quorum needed for that requirement to be carried out.

McCains days of free passes are limited. Watch, mark my words, his day of reckoning is coming quicker that believed.

I hope you are right because he has gotten more free passes than any presidential candidate in modern history.

The FEC hasn't ruled. Just because the "lawyers" said he should get a pass doesn't mean they will take these lawyers advice. Ok one can hope, can't they?

This isn't news this is the status quo for crooked Bush republicans.

Gonzales = pass
Rumsfield=pass
Cheney= pass
Rove= pass
McCain=pass

People voting for John McCain should be rounded up for treason against the United States of America. There is simply no way you could possibly have our country's best interest at heart. I can't imagine what would attract poor people to vote for McBushite except maybe color or mis-placed party loyality. At this point in our history, coupled with current events - voting for McCain should be counted as an act of war and aggression against the people of the United States.

With as many lobbyists in his pocket and big business to gain from his being elected what else would we expect. We are in the hands of a crocked government who has not scruples and no attachment to law and the constitution as we know it to be. They have made up their own rules as they have gone along and if Mac is elected he will do the same with out a thought. It is what we have seen with Bush and Mccain is desperate to have made promises he will be forced to keep. He is as bad as Bush in ways but much much worse in so many others. He has sold his soul and what is worse than that?

It should also be noted that Bush declined to renominate the previous FEC chair, David Mason, a Republican whom Bush had nominated twice before. The Reason? Mason articulated his view that McCain could not withdraw from public financing because of the loan guarantees as well as his having used the system to gain ballot access in many states.

So Bush through his own guy overboard in a naked attempt to manipulate the election in favor of McCain http://tinyurl.com/mccain-nopee). No surprise there.

McCain Advisor Lobbied For Georgia Government.

On. April 17, a month and a half after Scheunemann (McCain's Campaign Foreing Affair Advisor) continued work for Georgia his partner signed a $200,000 agreement with the Georgian Government.
The Deal Added to an Arrangement that brought in more than $800,000 to the Two-Man Firm from 2004 to mid-2007. For the duration of the Campaign Scheumemmann is taking a leave of Absence from the firm.

"Scheunemann's work as a Lobbyists poses Valid Questions about McCain's Judgement in Choosing someone who ---and --whose firm----are PAID To Promote the Interest of other Nations.", said New York University Law Professor Stehpen Gillers. "So one must ask whether McCain is getting dis-interested Advice, at Least when the Issues concern those Nations.

"If McCain wants Advice from someone whose private interest as a once and future Lobbyist May Affect the OBJECTIVITY of the Advice, that's his Choice."
