Warner Bros. has announced moving its sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," from Nov. 21, 2008, to July 17, 2009. The reason? Officially, there is no reason, except that "a spot opened on the summer schedule."

That's not much of a reason. The real story? Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will be right in the middle of his sensational, highly publicized run on Broadway in the play, "Equus." Radcliffe appears naked in the play, on stage, and has sex in it was well. That's not the image Warner Bros. wants associated with bespectacled Harry, who remains chaste and virginal.

Indeed, posters for Equus are up all over New York, of Radcliffe's naked torso superimposed on a horse's head. This is not the sort of thing that's taught at Hogwarts. For the movie to open on Nov. 21, Radcliffe would have to do publicity entailing answering questions about blinding horses and having sex with them vs. flying around and making potions.

I think I buy the "writers' strike" argument myself. That sounds a lot more plausible to me: not enough stupid films to release next summer when people have a little bit of money so let's release the Potter movie. They have a lot of money. We can get bigger box office!!!

Craig Ferguson made the most hilarious reference to Daniels nudity in that play by saying: "A chap never gets nude on stage with a horse if he's smart".

Poster makes sense when you know the plot of the play. A psychiatrist is treating a boy who blinded several horses by stabbing their eyes out. The nudity is brief and very dramatically done. It is less prurient than 95% of "teen" movies out there today. It is a brilliantly written play.

A brilliant play and the poster is wrong even it is hits every theme on the head, it is still aesthetically f*cked up.

I like Daniel, I like Equus, but....

The poster is like David Lynch gone VERY wrong.

It just does not work on any level, even as it overstates one theme of the play.

It is ugly.

They PAID someone to come up with this???

This story is completely wrong. Potter was moved to the summer because the writers strike made it impossible for a lot of summer release blockbuster films to be ready and available for release for summer 2009 & that would mean a big financial hit next summer. With the next Potter film, the studio has a ready-made summer blockbuster and they needed one. So they moved it. Just business, folks.

Except Warners says the film IS ready to go, just delayed for a better opening time. This reason makes more sense.

(And I like Radcliffe--very talented. Hate Equus -- and this poster).

This is utter bullshit, folks. There is one reason and one reason alone that any studio would push so far the release of a tentpole franchise film as anticipated as this one.
That reason, ladies and gentlemen, is that WB thinks the movie sucks and they are going to re-tool it for several months and try to salvage it.
That's it.

You don't switch from Winter to Summer because you think the movie sucks. It's actually the opposite.

Why can't we have Emma Watson in this play?

This has more to do with warped American sexual mores than anything else.

Great poster graphics. Very creative use of photo manipulation.

Well the real reason, WB HAS NO SUMMBER BLOCK BUSTER.

I'm ready to cry. HP is the only good movie coming out between new and Christmas.

It's bad enough when they can fly around on brooms and do magic, but now they want to get naked and have sex? What's this world coming to?

What was so bad about brooms and magic (or sex for that matter)? Don't tell me you're one of those who believe fantasy is "sinful".

Daniel Radcliff is a serious actor who has proven that he is not going to be branded and ultimately nullified by the "child actor" stigma by taking on this challenging role at such a young age. More power to him! America-get over your prudishness or risk continuing to be the global laughing stock. Mr Radcliff is of legal age. If he is half as good as he is in Potter, it would be worth seeing.

warner bros. and american film companies in general are so pathetic....fear of a little nudity sends them scurrying .how very sad. meanwhile they will put out 100 movies between november and july that feature murder and mayhem, blood, guts and gore. our priorities in america are terrifying.
