Warner Bros. has announced moving its sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," from Nov. 21, 2008, to July 17, 2009. The reason? Officially, there is no reason, except that "a spot opened on the summer schedule."

That's not much of a reason. The real story? Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will be right in the middle of his sensational, highly publicized run on Broadway in the play, "Equus." Radcliffe appears naked in the play, on stage, and has sex in it was well. That's not the image Warner Bros. wants associated with bespectacled Harry, who remains chaste and virginal.

Indeed, posters for Equus are up all over New York, of Radcliffe's naked torso superimposed on a horse's head. This is not the sort of thing that's taught at Hogwarts. For the movie to open on Nov. 21, Radcliffe would have to do publicity entailing answering questions about blinding horses and having sex with them vs. flying around and making potions.

I don't know about the play, but that poster is...disturbingly ugly.

I agree makes neither the human or the horse attractive. But then neither does the play.

Didn't care for it in the first run, why should I care about the revival?

Saw Anthony Hopkins in the play in 1975. He had replaced Richard Burton. Hardly anyone knew who Hopkins was then. The nudity, when it comes is not as shocking as the emotions that build up to that point.

Now thirty some odd years later what is nudity on stage anyway? If you take a peek at the anatomy the players aren't doing very well.

I read that they pushed the Harry Potter movie to make more money during the summer 2009 season. Don't movies make money over the Winter/Christmas holidays? Then again, I could believe WB's hidden agenda... Daniel doing Equus in NYC. Hmmm... I may have to cough up a few hundred dollars for show tickets....

This is not new, it seems like Radcliffe has been doing Equus just about as long as he has been doing Potter. Didn't he start this when he was just a pony?

Since he was 10 when he started doing Potter movies, I don't think so. I think this started in the Goblet of Fire - Order of the Phoenix transition. I believe Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon from the movies) will also be appearing in the Broadway production as he did in London.

More likely they want to make their balance sheet strong in '09 by pushing it. Go over to DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD for a more sensical analysis. A local theatrical run (even on the mighty Broadway) would hardly effect the release of a billons+ film juggernaut.

Perhaps WB is worried we'd be disappoint in Harry's "magic wand?"
