Biden To Georgia At Saakshvili's Request

President Bush warned Russia on Saturday against trying to pry loose two separatist regions in Georgia and said Moscow must end military operations in the West-leaning democracy that once was part of the Soviet empire.

Bush told reporters at his Texas ranch that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's signing of a cease-fire plan with Georgia was "a hopeful step." But Russia's vision of Georgia without the provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was a nonstarter, the president said.

At the request of Saakshvili, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joe Biden, D-Del., scheduled a trip to Georgia this weekend for meetings with government officials as well as citizens forced to flee their homes.

South Ossetians are glad to have Russian passports. They want no part of Georgia.

So why do we have to keep trying to pump him up vs. Russia? When Saakashvili said, "You are dealing with a people (the Russians) who despise anything human," he sounded like a madman.

Too bad South Ossetia and Abkazia can't afford high-priced Washington lobbyists of their own.

Brillant move by Saakshvili. Cover all your bases by inviting Obama's Vice Presidential candidate. Make sure that no matter which candidate wins, the U.S. will support the Georgian oppression of the Ossetian and Abkhasian people.

No matter how the election turns out, the United States will end up as Georgia's cat's paw. We are being suckerred into this, just as we were sukkered into the war with Iraq.

The headline is misleading.

Interesting that Saakshvili requested that Biden go to Georgia. I thought Saakshvili's BFF, our pretend President McCain, sent his BFF's on a mission - the pretend Secretary of State Lieberman and the pretend Secretary of War Graham.

Or did he figure out that McCain, Lieberman, and Graham have no authority to do anything. Remember this message from Saakshvili the other day:

“Yesterday, I heard Sen. McCain say, ‘We are all Georgians now,’” Saakashvili said on CNN’s American Morning. “Well, very nice, you know, very cheering for us to hear that, but OK, it’s time to pass from this. From words to deeds.”

The Southern states all voluntarily joined the United States, and the Constitution does not have any provisions for secession. Joining he Union is something that cannot be undone because when a state joins the Union it gives up the right to control its military and foreign affairs to the Federal Government.

South Ossetia never voluntarily joined Georgia. Those boundaries were imposed on them by the former Soviet Union.

The headline should say, "...at President's Invitation" so it's clear from the headline it's the GEORGIAN president.

"President's request" sounds like Bush asked him to go (as unlikely as that seems. But still....)
