BEIJING — The U.S. track and field team's protest of the women's 100-meter final at the Olympics was rejected Sunday night.

The Americans asked that the race be reviewed because of a possible false start by Torri Edwards, one of the country's sprinters.

Edwards herself said she thought she false-started. She wound up finishing last as Shelly-Ann Fraser led a Jamaican sweep of medals in the dash.

Relax! Have some fun.

China lost basketball games numerous times despite Yao Ming. Look at him and his expressions.

Tell me what you think?

They need to leave it alone-

What they ought to be protesting is that disgraceful scoring in the women's gymnastics vault competition where Sacaramone got screwed in favor of a Chinese kid who messed up during her vault and landed on her knees.

Give me a break. That was outrageous.

A "flinch" is just a flinch... unless and until a review rules it a DQ. Why the self-flagellating, slam-the-U.S. outcry? The protest was routine, reviewed and dismissed. Any deaths involved? Hardly diminishes the incredible performance by Fraser.

Another whinning feather in the Americans' cap.
From gymnastics getting butts kicked by "under-age girls and nerves wracked by 2 min delays" to this now.

Yeah, just like the 4x100 men (swimming)--no class. And don't forget Bela Karoly, the nationalist commentator, who is against all things not American, unless that person is Romanian. Phelps is proving to be a bit of a twit. I loved his last comment, that one competitor's comment, that Phelps losing one event would be good for swimming. Phelps said that innocuous comment "fired him up." What a twit.

Couldn't disagree more. Phelps is a competitive person like Jordan or Woods or Gretzky. At least 70% of their success is owed to their mental strength and belief that they can achieve anything. Jordan used to invent rivalries with his opponents to fuel his desire to win and compete even more. After swimming 16 races the previous 6 or seven days, the kid needed everything and anything he had mentally to overcome the physical pain and exertion he had put his body through.

Americans filed a protest. It failed. Next subject.

Nope, time to bash Americans for the next 1000 post. Geez.

If all the talk bothers people, put the TV on mute and keep watching. Why miss it because of a bunch of over-talkative talking heads?

It was a false start, but MAN ALIVE....the Jamaicans are FAST! Doing it over wouldn't make all that much difference. Shelly-Ann Fraser and Usain Bolt were blazing in their races! Those two look like they could play ping pong alone.

actually it wasn't a false start she just flinched

A Chinese swimmer was DQ'ed for a "flinch" in the 100 meter freestyle, which enabled libby tricket to qualify for the final which she otherwise wouldn't have. Why didn't they DQ Edwards after reviewing the tape? She did flinch.

America is a nation of whiners with a hubristic sense of unfair entitlement. Go Jamaica.

NBC should be disqualified from even bidding for coverage of the next Olympics. Why is America the ONLY country in the world where the viewing public had to wait over 12 hours to see the events? Isn't there more than a hint of irony there?

While the whole world shares the excitement and thrill of the victories, NBC insulted us by saying "can't see it 'till we say so." I think this is the beginning of a new era with regard to communication in this country. And yet they had the nerve to talk about their coverage being a "watershed" event.

I guess when you think about it, it is.

I assume that most have seen the old Bud Greenspan documentaries on the Olympics. It was always about the athletes, the great performances, the great stories, etc. It always inspired. This overwhelming jingoistic BS peddled by NBC is just sad. I just stopped watching and I've been watching Olympics since 1960. What a sad little country we have become.

The US asking for a review of the start is within the rules and I suspect if any other nation had made the protest few here would complain. It is beyond absurd to attack the US for this. no one who has ever competed above the grade school level would make such an uninformed statement.
