Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to celebrate his 72nd birthday on Aug. 29 by naming his running mate at a huge rally in the battleground state of Ohio, Republican sources said.

That's a week from this Friday, and the day after Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) accepts the Democratic nomination at a 70,000-person spectacular in a Denver stadium.

So the front runners are Romney, Pawlenty, Ridge and Lieberman?
Ridge - homeland security chops and Pennslyvania - a must win state
Pawlenty - young leader and natural successor - Minnesota (almost as valuable as Penn...)
LIeberman - appeal with independents and Jews - good working relationship - not exactly a shining example of courage or loyalty
Romney - can raise money. trashed McCain in primairies. self-appointed and obnoxious - didn't have that much success in the primaries - no clear consituency that helps (Mass - blue anyway, Mormons - red anyway, Michigan - maybe)

Watch - McCain will take the worst of these - he'll pick Romney.

What an idiotic campaign McCain is running. Okay, so now Obama knows when McCain is going to announce, which gives him a couple of weeks to counter-program.

If McCain were president, would he tell a country he's about to invade that he's going to do so at a set time and date?

Sorry, that guy just isn't smart enough to be president.

Or senator.

They're gonna have to fly in 10,000 people for McCain's announcement. No way can he get that many people on his own.

OBAMA '08!

I read that somewhere today, and I'm trying to find a link to the story. Obama fills 75,000 capacity field with others waiting outside, McCain can't fill a 10,000 seater in Ohio without bussing supporters from other cities - I get a laugh every time I think of it.

McCain is in dire straights with his VP pick, even more so than Obama. If he picks a liberal, pro-choice running mate he won't alienate women but he will alienate his arch conservative and evangelical backers. If he picks an anti-choice running mate I think moderate female voters will leave McCain in droves.

McCain to "pick his poison" on his birthday.

If Obama picks Biden, then you can bet that McCain will not pick that little governor from Minnesota. He will select Lieberman who he believes will go toe to toe with Biden as another attack dog.

Can someone explain something to me?

What does "pro-life" mean? Really...what does it mean? People throw out that term and I don't really think they understand what it means....it is just something someone says when they want to get all fired about about abortion.

Here is a fact: You cannot be pro-life if (1) you advocate sending people to war and their deaths (2) you advocate innocent people getting killed in a time of war.

Are aborted babies any more or less tragic than a soldier killed, a pregnant mother who is kiled by a bomb or gun, or a parent killed by a drunk driver.

I just hate the term "pro-life" like it is so moral or something.

Well, just start referring to them as the "anti-choice" voters, that's what I do. You make a valid point, for many (not ALL) pro-lifers, the value and sanctity of life begins at conception and ends at birth. After being born, the infant is pretty much on it's own. I respect those pro-lifers that are consistent in their beliefs, but I do think they are in the minority.

The GOP Pro-Life plan:
All babies conceived get to live.
Then sent to Iraq and Iran and maybe Russia by the time they are 18.
What's wrong with this plan?
It works for them.

Oh, if it happens it will quite easy to figure out why.

I just wonder when McCain voters will realize what 10-15 TRILLION dollars in debt will mean to the future of this nation.

It figures a national tragedy would have his birthdate.
McCain had cake while Katrina devastated New Orleans. Now he'll declare his Veep on the day he ate cake with Bush on a tarmac.

Not surprising that McCain will wait for the real leader to make his VP decision first before he can decide

Never mind the fact the RNC is after the DNC and he doesn't have to. It is a smart move not to give all the momentum.
