SAN FRANCISCO — Barack Obama raked $7.8 million Sunday at three separate fundraisers in San Francisco, telling a VIP dinner crowd _ many of whom paid $28,500 to attend _ that he would win the presidency in November but to expect a tough battle with Republicans in the meantime.

"John McCain, all he wants to do is talk about me," Obama told supporters. "They know they can't win on the issues. So what they'll do is they'll try to scare people:'He's risky. He's risky. We're not sure.'"

Obama was introduced at the dinner by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called him "a leader God has blessed us with at this time."

In April, at another fundraiser in this prosperous, liberal city, Obama made his infamous remarks about bitter small town voters who "cling" to guns and religion. His rival in the primaries, Hillary Rodham Clinton, immediately seized on the comments as evidence that Obama was an elitist with little regard for middle-class values.

Obama avoided any such characterizations this time but did say many voters are angry and confused.

"The fact of the matter is, at a certain point, when government has not been serving the people for this long, people get cynical. They tune out," he said. "And they start saying to themselves, a plague on both your houses. They are willing to consume negative information more frequently than positive information, for good reason. They've seen how promises haven't been kept."

Obama has maintained a strong fundraising pace, bringing in $51 million in July to McCain's $27 million. But his campaign has also been spending at a rapid clip and the Illinois senator has turned down public funding for the general election campaign, requiring him to keep up a robust fundraising schedule for the fall.

I noticed the part where Obama guarantees victory in the Fall has been white washed from the article. The original headline this article used was "I will win. Don't worry about that". Now there is no mention of that statement.

I wonder why? hmmm...

Anyone who is trying to raise money from supporters had better tell them he's going to win. Duh. People don't give money to people who say, "Well, I don't know if I can win this thing."

More troublesome to me is Pelosi's GOP like comments about God sending a candidate to help the Democratic Party. Let's leave that kind of nonsense to the Republicans.

You missed the point. Why has the HuffPo removed that from the story?

I am a Obama supporter. I would like to ask everyone this question, both Dem and Rep. Have you ever changed your position on anything? I know I have.

It called having an open mind. No one...Dem or Rep has ALL of the right answers. If I have a position on a subject, and enough evidence is brought to light that would cause me to rethink my previous position, then that is called growing as a person.

Everyone needs to stop this flip-flop BS. The name calling is childish. The bottom line is we need to pick the best person for the job.

The voters have already decided who the best person for the job is, and that person is Barak Obama.
When you consider the experience that this present administration had going into their time in office, you really couldn't find anyone with more experience. Most were members of the Reagan administration, who had been waiting in the wings. The world is a witness to just how messed up our country has become under such fools. And for some reason you think that Hillary's experience somehow qualifies her for office?

Our adult son says his parents are "buying Obama on the lay-away plan". Ten dollars a month. Almost everyone can make some kind of sacrifice of money or time because... this is our time in the long span of history.

It seems like it's just your life, moment to moment, but it is history just as real as any time in history and just as imporant. Some hearts are open and some are not. Where now are the people who once hated Gandhi? Many people hated Gandhi in his day. They said Martin Luther King was a fake. History is a story of conversion. In France everyone's grandfathers now say they were in the resistance against he Nazi occupation. At the time, not actually so many. When our grandchilden ask what we did to support their future? How will we speak of Obama?

I forget. Obama said something about public financing a while back.

Did he say he would accept it, or renounce it? I can't recall.

Has he changed positions or not?

Here's a story you can say you read first at The Jed Report: according to FEC reports filed on July 15, through June 30, John McCain had raised at $62.5 million in private funds that can be used for his general election campaign -- even though he's already committed to accepting public funding for the general.
Since you remember so much remember this !!!

Um, maybe you should get your facts straight. Because McCain chose to play by the rules, has to use up whatever money he raised--every bit--before Rep convention which is when he will be given the $84 million that he is allotted.

Yes, good 'ol, straight-talking Barry O initially said he would accept public financing. But when he realized that people were actually taking his vapid change/hope message seriously and he started raking in money hand-over-fist, he renounced it so that he wouldn't have to play by the rules. After all, the chosen one should not have to abide by rules!! All together now, let's chant the messiah's silly message, the one he is counting will get him to the White House:

". . . . because we can only hope for change because change happens all the time and today is different from yesterday because it changed and tomorrow will change too or we hope it will. But we have to make sure that future generations change and we will continue to hope for change because change is good and change is our only hope."

Another problem I have discovered is that the Republicans have the small of mind convinced that it was the raising of the minimum wage that cost us our jobs. They get their economic's from O'Reilly because they didn't get it at school and can't figure out whats going on. They swallow this stuff hook, line and sinker.

Why do some of these stories have no source? $28,500 to attend? Where does this money go? Is is an FEC violation? Pelosi you are such a blight on the party.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:39 AM on 08/19/2008

I attended the fundraiser. The dinner was $14,250 per person. There were 360-380 people who paid to attend the dinner and others paid less ($4600-$2300) to attend the general reception. The money went to the DNC's victory fund. I really hope Obama wins but I have no desire to attend another fundraiser. The guests were first promised face time with Obama, then were told that they would get a picture, then, finally ended up with a picture in groups of 10 ppl. So this money truly is a donation to the democratic party.

Oh that is sad I haven't gone to any of his fundraisers that he has had here in Michigan because everytime they are sold out but I have been contributing online to his campaign. I don't want any of my money going to Hillary Clinton to help her retire her campaign debt. That is why I give directly to his web site... I don't care what anybody else thinks of Hillary & No Good Bill Clinton, I don't like the Clintons....

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:02 AM on 08/19/2008

You mean the messiah--Barry O--was unable to keep the promise of having his picture taken with a donor who paid over $14,000 to be in the same room with him? Oh well, it wasn't actually BHO who made the promise, right? So, he gets to keep his wings.

All together now, let's chant the messiah's silly message, the one he is counting will get him to the White House:

". . . . because we can only hope for change because change happens all the time and today is different from yesterday because it changed and tomorrow will change too or we hope it will. If Obama announces it on Friday, the first day of the convention, and it isn't Hillary, this will allow The Catharsis to play out over the weekend and, hopefully, by Monday and when millions more will be tuning in, The Healing will have come and gone. Because one thing you don't want played out before the whole nation on live tv and when the viewer count is at a maximum, is a Catharsis. It is just too unsettling to watch.

I could only imagine the field day this site would have if the Republican leader introduced McCain that way.

Problem is...she is elected by them SF folks...exclusively. Second problem...when folks from another state starts talking bad about my Congressional representative, I want to vote for that person because I don't like another state...especially a backward ass one...talking bad about my congress person!

Without the drama...the folks of her district decide...if she becomes a national figure and target of the opposition...she is bound to serve the district for years maybe running for President one day. I say...scrutinize your own peeps before talkin smack about other folks peeps.
