How big a deal is today's veepstakes comment from Sen. Joe Biden that "I'm not the guy"?

A figure familiar with Biden's thinking says the remark is hardly consequential.

"That is a comment that he typically gives for people who ask about [the vice presidency]," the source said, adding that it has been the senator's stock answer to the question for weeks now.

In other words, let the speculation continue.

Choosing the most qualified option (Biden) would be a refreshing change. What the heck, it would be darn near revolutionary in the context of the past ("heck of a job Brownie" etal.) years.

Biden is part of the conspiracy to paint Russia as the attacker instead of Georgia.

Clark!

I agree. But someone close to him (Nunn?) has turned Obama against Clark.

I hope time will tell and bring him around eventually. But it won't be this week.

Clark turned himself against Obama during the primaries when he said Obama was not ready to lead but Hillary was. He can't go back and make that go away. The GOP would run that over and over in every ad they had from now until election day.

Russia is the one that moved its forces over an internationally recognized border and still occupies parts of another sovereign country. Some would say that makes it "the attacker." Same way the we (the US) was the attacker in Iraq. Whether it was justified is a different question, but it doesn't change Russia's role as the attacker.

Back to Biden... he's smart enough to know that Russia represents a long-term strategic threat, completely independent of the latest pissing match it's having with the equally petulant (but tiny) Georgia.

You know, out of every candidate that started the primaries, this is by far the guy that was most qualified, and I will be ecstatic if he is the choice. I can't wait to see what kind of attack phrase he comes up with for McCain. "Noun, Verb, and 9/11" was the quote of the year!

There was breaking news a little while ago on Olberman that Biden returned from golfing and spoke to reporters saying he hasnt been contacted from the campaign yet and he knows as much about it as the rest of us. Don't count him out.

There is a strong case for Sibeleus as Vice Presidential candidate to make sure McCain does not outflank Obama by picking a female Vice Presidential candiate, like Senator Hutchinson. But this would be a defensive move.

The strongest offensive move is definitely Biden, especially after he was invited to visit Georgia by Saakashvili (Sp?).

McCain unfortunately has succeeded in raising questions about Obama's national security credentials in the public mind and Biden would be the most effective person to correct this problem, both in selling Obama's superior judgement in national security matters, and taking on McCains national security credentials which may be strong on quantity but very weak in the area of quality.

How does picking Biden take away McCain's ability to continue to raise questions about Barack Obama's national security credentials? McCain is selling his own creds on this topic, and he wouldn't take on Biden, so who does this leave?

Personally, I'll be happy with who ever Obama chooses. One thing about Barack Obama that has impressed me with him from the beginning is:

Obama is a heckava lot smarter than most people give him credit for.

Exactly. I've no doubt his choice will be a wise, well thought out one.

He's my first choice. Not so much for what he brings electorally but more because he is the closest things the Dems have to a pitbull. I've enjoyed him over the years on Meet the Press. He doesn't take guff from anyone and has NO problem speaking his mind when it comes to Bush and the GOP.

Biden strengthens Obama's hand in Pennsylvania being that he was born in Scranton and grew up there until age 14.
