Gore

Al Gore will reportedly speak at the final night of the Democratic convention -- a coveted spot, but one that should put to rest the rumors (however faint) that the former vice president might reprise his role for Barack Obama.

The story appeared on CNN.

"We are learning," the network's anchor said, "that former vice president Al Gore has accepted a speaking role at the Democratic National Convention. It will happen on the final night of the convention. Of course, he'll be appearing on the same stage as Barack Obama receiving the party's presidential nomination officially. Not sure what he'll say or exactly what time he will give it. But we know and we have been reporting there's going to be a lot of people there. They're expecting the crowd to be something like 70,000 or so. Former Vice President Al Gore has accepted a speaking role at the Democratic National Convention."

Gore has long stated that he does not want to return to the White House whether as vice president or in another administration role. But his statements have not been enough to tamp down the (unlikely) speculation that he might be tapped as Obama's number two. The selection of a Thursday evening speaking spot should, however, put the final nail in that coffin. Vice presidential candidates traditionally address the convention on Wednesday night.

Undoubtedly, having Gore take the stage the same evening as Obama pushes a sharp message, reminding voters about the fundamental dynamic of this election: how different things could have been had George Bush not taken the White House in 2000.

Al Gore will reportedly speak at the final night of the Democratic convention -- a coveted spot, but one that should put to rest the rumors (however faint) that the former vice president might reprise...

It's not clear to me.

Will Al Gore be sharing the platform in the Mile High Stadium where Obama will give his speech in front of thousands of supporters and a Leni type video photographer?

Anybody know?

Better than George W. Bush standing up right down my NYC Street -- on top of the rubble -- in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA -- and threatening to capture Osama..."dead or alive...."

algore, dressed in vestal virgin robes, will be lowered (by crane) onto the stage where he will enchant the throngs with a ditty and short dance recital to Barry, the One.

BigLib, that's hysterical.

I can quite vividly imagine that happening. :-)

Have no fear, it is not Gore. Trust me on this if you can. There is a big surprise coming, someone that no one has considered that we all know and respect that will be the VP pick. Obama has kept this secret very well. That is just my gut feeling speaking.

"Someone that no one has considered that we all know and respect"? Just an observation, as speculation runs wild, the list of those who (a) we all know, (b) we all respect and (c) we have never considered as a potential VP for Obama just gets smaller and smaller. Care to add anyone to the list? We have already been through about 10 names already. Care to tell us who we are missing that fits the bill? BTW, why did everyone decide Clark was not in the running?

His "unclear" Iraq war positions. He seemed to go back and forth.

Things sure would have been different if Bush hadn't stolen the 2000 election. And if the voters hadn't re-elected him after knowing he lied and stiffed this country. I have always admired Al Gore and hope he will heal the party after the Clintons have sucked all unity from the Dems.

Different, yes. If algore would have actually won his state (and the election), he would have probably been impeached after 9-11. The investigation into the Clinton administration's do-nothing policy when it came to terrorism would have made him the perfect scapegoat and Joe Liberman would have been president.

Not hardly, BigLib. After 9/11, Gore would have probably ordered covert action in the mountains of Afghanistan where Bin Laden actually was. There would have been no invasion of Iraq and noo impeachment. You're talking cr@p.

I am most concerned with this news. While I supported Gore in 2000, I am finding it increasingly hard to do so today. His hypocrisy on the climate change issue (owning a 15,000 square foot home, flying in private jets, driving SUV's and leaving them idling, etc.) leaves Barack and serious GW fighters in a struggle for desperately needed credibility. We don't need that.

Add to that Gore's mega-ballooning weight, and his propensity to sweat profusely, and I'm not sure it will be a pretty sight. And I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't scream and carry on like he has in recent years -- it too scares a lot of people off. I admire the passion, but the flabby perspiration and shrill speechmaking could backfire on us.

If Gore is serous about not being in office, and I think he is, I am sure he will be consulted on who would be the best Secretary of Energy. I hope that he will praise Senator Obama as ready to be president and he will challenge us all to do everything we can to help him win and not let what happened to him happen to Senator Obama.

I'm glad that Al Gore could see how vindictive the Clintons were being and decided to work with Obama towards the end of the primary. I wish he would have endorsed him sooner though, but I understand why he wanted to wait until the end to make any public statement.

I was a Gore supporter.
Every morning I wake up and wonder where the world would be today if Al Gore was president today.
I wonder what the price of gas would be if Al Gore was president.
I wonder how many good Americans would be alive today if Al Gore was president.
This was the man that was swift boated for being dull!
The GOP is now trying to sell us a man who is dumb but is touted as being MY FRIEND.
No thank you John McCain, Barak Obama is my friend.

Yes, well deserved. Gore is a great choice to close and will remind people of what could have been if Bush had not destroyed the country for the last 8 years.

"...how different things could have been had George Bush not taken the White House in 2000."

Good Lord, yes. We could have had Lieberman as the front runner for the Democratic nomination instead of Obama.

Just think, if B u s h had not been elected we would be closer today to moving away from foreign oil. We wouldn't be hearing "Drill here" or "Drill in ANWR" as a solution to the problem.

So, HRC on tuesday, Bill on Wednesday and Gore on Thursday. Good thing those 90s were so evil and bad that 08ama wants to get away from them, right?

maybe we can have a real choice in 2012 between Gore and HRC after 08ama loses in November.

Oh boy. I'll bet you're going to be awfully bitter when you wake up on Nov 5th to learn that Barack Obama is now President Obama. Please don't rule out finding another country of residence in that event.

Hello AZModerate: Are you as angry about McCain as I am? McCain’s call to fame is that he is the only representative in Washington never to request any earmarks for his home state. What does that prove? To me it shows that in McCain’s mind Arizona is so wealthy that we do not need any assistance from Washington. It seems he is happy to see all the tax dollars that we send to DC go to other states. Arizona has Indian Reservations with unemployment over 60%. We have beautiful rural areas that would greatly benefit from an increase in tourism. McCain’s lack of concern for Arizona shows that when John and Cindy fly over our state in their private plane that they do not pay attention to the people that live outside of Scottsdale. I hope the citizens of Arizona will send him a message and not vote for him in November.

The same Al Gore who picked Joe Lierberman for VP?
The same Al Gore who handed the Presidency over to a clown without putting up a fight?
Al Gore is a Good Man, but he's no politician.... when the chips were down he quit the game! Now he has something he truly believes in and it shows in his passion... I wish him the best, but he should stay out of politics!

Obama-Feingold '08

Imagine the message the three of them standing in a crowd of 80,000 people would send.

I would like an Obama Feingold ticket also, but considering the fact that Feingold was in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a week ago praising McCain as "a true original" and saying Obama will have difficulty winning, I don't think it will happen, and it has eroded some of my respect for Feingold.
