It's Official: John Edwards Staying Away From Denver

It's official: Democrats have dodged the John Edwards bullet at their party's national convention in Denver next week. Edwards, whose infidelity to his cancer-stricken wife has made him a leper among his own people, won't be anywhere on the sidelines.

"Unequivocally, he is not going to Denver," says Jonathan Prince, who served as deputy chief of staff on the Edwards 2008 presidential campaign.

Edwards will not be speaking at the Democrat's National Convention, presumably because he had an affair and lied about it.

Bill Clinton will be speaking in his place.

Anyone know in what condition her health is in?
John and Elizabeth are scheduled to give a lecture
on health care in September at a college in Salem Massachusetts.

Now the Democratic Party should ask Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick not to attend the convention. That is who they should ask to stay at home..... Kwame Kilpatrick has done way more than John Edwards....

The situation is really ripe for a Clinton coup in Denver. Edwards gone, Billary has her own whip team roaming the floors, roll call vote, etc. I'd personally get a blast out of superdelegates switching to HCR at the last minute and Hillary emerging as the surprise victor. Don't think for a second that they aren't capable of it. Obama's working hard to lose this thing. I've gotten so I turn the radio off when 2 people come on, Obama and Bush. I can't take the insincerity anymore, or those goofy smirks.

John Edwards was slated for a major keynote address during prime time at the Democratic Convention before this trouble happened.

I was really looking forward to his speech. I like the content of his speeches and he definitely impassions a crowd. It would have helped to get voters energized to vote.

I still think that if Ted Kennedy can suffer the debaucle of Chappaquidek and still have a life in public service for 40 years, then there could very well be forgiveness and public service in the future for John Edwards. Not that there is a comparison between the two misfortunes, but it illustrates how someone in public service can receive redemption and carry on.

Kennedy's transgressions were fatal. However, as far as I know, Edwards doesn't have daddy to save his career like Teddy did.

Let's be clear. John Edwards didn't decide not to go to the convention -- he was not invited to the convention. And Elizabeth Edwards, who was expected to speak at the convention, was not invited. It was NOT his choice, but Obama's.
