Keith Olbermann On McCain's War With NBC: Grow Up (VIDEO)

On MSNBC's "Countdown" last night, Keith Olbermann tore into John McCain for complaining about NBC election coverage -- and for his attacks on Barack Obama. Watch:

Olbermann explained the segment in a Daily Kos post:

What's the old saw? Never get into an argument with people who buy ink by the barrel? Is there an electronic equivalent?

I'm not even sure you can't beat a media organization. But if you're a presidential candidate and you come after it with a craven and silly argument - and you follow a path previously tried by a now ex-presidential candidate - you've probably been poorly advised.

Thus tonight, between Senator McCain's manager's broadside against us, and his creative but tinny-sounding attacks on Senator Obama today at the VFW Convention, I've got a Special Comment planned.

Keith, thank you so much for talking TRUTH TO POWER. You are one of the few lights of truth and reason in the mainstream media.

I am sick to heart about the republicans, they are allowed to demean any democrat at all for anything, but heavens, we should not consider his judgement in selecting a soon to be grandmother, with 5 children and one of them having down's syndrome and moving her family to Washington DC... Wonder if the 17 year old will be married by then... Funny that no republicans seem to believe in statutory rape...

With my son getting ready to go back to Iraq again, it really is good to hear you talk about this fiasco. What Sarah Patin calls a war for Christianity and she is also one of those endtimes believers...McCain was totally RECKLESS in selecting this women, Rove himself might be better than her...

Thanks so much and please keep up the good work

I've got a great idea for a campaign commercial that will really get into the heads of the people age 55+, because it uses a song that they know in their sleep: "Big Bad John", but instead it will be "Flip Flop John". you can say, "yeah i said good things about John in 2005. back then, he opposed tax cuts for the 7 home millionaires. Now, he supports them." pause. (musical refrain: "Flip Flop John"). Back then, he__--(fill in the blank). Now, he ____. pause. (musical refrain: "Flip Flop John"). do this 3-4 times. the tune is already stuck in the background psyches of older people everywhere, including me, and i don't even like the song. doesn't matter. millions of dollars have already been spent creating the collective psychic culture groove. it will work. it will be as historic as the lyndon johnson nuclear winter daisy commercial, but funny.

America's hero Keith Olbermann totally rocks in this Special Comment. He exposed the old man like no one else have ever done, not even Huffpost which has been one of the lone voices in the msm providing any truth about McSame. John McCain thinks he has a right to positive media coverage and for the most part the msm has been buying into this, giving him a pass for almost every gaffe that he has made while overplaying any conceivable blunder on the part of Obama. Keith is the only guy on television who continuously tells the truth about McCain. If it wasn't for Countdown, all we'd know about McCain is that he is a decorated war hero because that's all CNN, Fox news and the rest of the msm tells us.

Thank you Keith, for an excellent Special Comment and thanks HuffPost for posting this. Keith is always looking out for us. America has hope again.

whatever...Olbermann is a biased leftist liberal that would bow down and consider Obama "the chosen one". . Also, why is Fox News always above MSNBC for viewership and ratings then? American hero, LMAO.

from ref desk TODAY -
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." - Abraham Lincoln AMEN A great president with little political experience
but a beautiful heart, mind and soul - a SERVANT of GOD and the NATION!

Hi McBREES --
I Olbermann might be one of the most unhappy/angry men on television
Hopefully an associate will suggest serious counseling.
I am floored that many people do not listen to the radio or read newspapers but get most of their "information and news" from CNN MSNBC and HUFFINGTON POST
- or other skewed blogs.
What a limited way to get news and information -- living in a dark closet searching for some light !
IF Obama becomes President the more liberal CITIZENS and members of the MEDIA who did not delve into his background and search their own hearts
might lose their enthusiasm for him quickly.

OBAMA phenomenon is just that so little substance !

Idealism is swell but Obama lacks foresight & is not seasoned enuf.
The Rev Wright FIASCO shows us that OBAMA has poor judgement in his personal life -

to begin a campaign and NOT clean that mess up was very rash.
Rational people will use their hearts and minds when choosing the President.

SPEAK sarcastically about Gov SARAH PALIN it demonstates immaturity and
desperation on OBAMA 's part

BLIND AMBITION will trip politicians up.
We need a humble leader .

Commander McCain returns fire when little dogs nip at him. He has no choice.

There's that "seemingness" again. He seems to be a commander, until you ask commander of what, and until you actually listen to what he says. The Administration is a party to this presentation of McCain's seemingness by allowing him to address Georgia and send his wife over there. They think if he seems to be slipping into the role of president already, then we will take it as a foregone conclusion.

Come on Keith, everyone (well, anyone with any sense) knows that McCain (and Bush) were talking about the defeat of the Iraqi Army. He said right there that the rebuilding of Iraq would be a long, tough process. McCain was right: the defeat of the Iraqi army was swift and impressive, with few American casualties. The rebuilding process has proven to be much harder than defeating the Iraqi Army. This is a classic example of taking someones words out of context. Shame on you Keith.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:16 PM on 08/20/2008

BS...not swift.
When you're talking about Iraq there had been sanctions going on since the 90s.
What rebuilding of Iraq is going on?
US has spent most of the time building that outgrageous embassy and roaming the oil fields.

The Iraqi's need to take their oil money and rebuild...and the US needs to get the hell out.
The Iraqi's are not children.

Exactly. We have no interest in helping the Iraqi people by rebuilding their country. How naive. We are there to consolidate our grip on their oil and to permanently establish our presence there. Our gov doesn't give a damn about infrastructure except as it facilitates our goals there.

Shame on you riverhippie, they said major combat operations were over and they had won, not that the "Iraqi army" was defeated. You Reps lies and spin are falling on deaf ears now, your credibility is gone. Join reality for an update on your victory.

People who take exception to Keith Olbermann generally hear what they want to hear and have never bothered to toss the pros and cons and do research. Thank goodness Keith checks his research. He's the only believable voice out there, and now Rachel Maddow is adding her incisive voice. Go Keith!

I read an article in the Times a year or so ago about the feud ongoing between Keith and his girlfriend. She said he was a real chauvenistic jerk, a user of women and a huge egotist. She said he likes to jump his dates, then skidaddle outta there.

She also said his "package" was the size of a thumbtack.

Ladies, beware.

Like anyone cares about a package - which has nothing to do with nothing. Keith to me says
what he thinks and seems not to be guided by the pressure the rest of the journalists have.
In other words a very capable young man.

Off topic and WHO CARES what an ex-girlfriend has to say about someone that rejected them.
How about McShakes cheating on and tossing his crippled wife for Ms. Moneybags that seems to have hankering for men like that...See: story on half sister.

Olesmartee, I really don't think you are really smart. When have you heard a disposed ex-girlfriend talk positive of her ex. Once again, you republicans are trying to get of the topic. WE THE PEOPLE are not going to buy your nonsense. Stay focus and be smart.

Any woman who would denigrate publicly her ex's privates, in hindsight needed to be dumped. The only revelation is about herself. Didn't you know that?

It's more appropriate to tell the Senator to grow "a pair". He is cowardly in all of his actions, substituting surrogates voices for what he knows he lacks the ability or the intelligence to say.

Yes, the media has turned this into a "horse race" by giving 80% of coverage on Obama as negative. This is how they earn their dollars, and get large audiences. But now that the playing field has almost been leveled, McCain should not expect that the media will continue to give him a free ride.

People would tire of a non-stop McCain positive spin in the news also, so McCain better be prepared to show a little intelligence and leadership, as the name-calling from behind his mother's skirts is not going to be enough. Unless, perhaps, that is all McCain has to offer.

It's off topic, but maybe someone on this board can answer for me what exactly is Bill Clinton's involvement with Kazakstan and that oil pipeline. I think deflecting our attention on that BTC pipeline (BP pipeline) and Georgia's relationship is diverting our attention on Kazakstan and all the American business folks involved with that oil deal(s). I think it might have something to do with the true riff between Obama and Bill Clinton. It a shame because Bill is hampering Miss Hill. I do hope that some clarity can be put out there about that Kasickstan area and Russia v. USA.

General Clark was right! Getting shot down does not qualify you to be President. And from what I understand it wasn't the first time McCain crashed his plane. It just shows he was a poor pilot - that's all. McCain disgusts me. He seems to be willing to say ANYTHING to get elected.
