I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Odignity

There was a thread of stern if not defensive outrage in Barack Obama's address at the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Tuesday. The Illinois Democrat did not raise his voice, nor did his facial expression reflect a sense of anger. But he was pointed in his criticism and direct in lambasting the type of campaign his Republican opponent, John McCain, is running.

"Yesterday, Senator McCain came before you," said Obama. "He is a man who has served this nation honorably, and he correctly stated that one of the chief criteria for the American people in this election is going to be who can exercise the best judgment as Commander in Chief. But instead of just offering policy answers, he turned to a typical laundry list of political attacks. He said that I have changed my position on Iraq when I have not. He said that I am for a path of "retreat and failure." And he declared, "Behind all of these claims and positions by Senator Obama lies the ambition to be president" -- suggesting, as he has so many times, that I put personal ambition before my country. That is John McCain's prerogative. He can run that kind of campaign, and -- frankly -- that's how political campaigns have been run in recent years. But I believe the American people are better than that. I believe that this defining moment demands something more of us."

It is a vintage Obama line: deploring the tactics of his opponent as a method of rising above the fray. And, indeed, later in the address -- which was focused on redefining proper judgment on Iraq (why, Obama asked, should we give McCain a pass on his false predictions leading up to the invasion?) -- the presumptive Democratic nominee again chastised his challenger for resorting to the politics of the past.

"One of the things that we have to change in this country is the idea that people can't disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism," he said, to applause. "I have never suggested that Senator McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America's national interest. Now, it's time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same. Let me be clear: I will let no one question my love of this country. I love America, so do you, and so does John McCain."

It's curious to see how this method of campaigning, which was effective in the primary campaign, will play out in the general. Obama's substantive critiques of McCain's foreign policy -- like asking why the Arizona Republican nominee would "follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell" but not target him in Pakistan without that country's permission -- were equally if not more effective. Moreover, there is a growing list of Democratic observers who are pining for a more aggressive posture in which Obama is not just parlaying the McCain attack de jour, but dictating the campaign theme.

There was a thread of stern if not defensive outrage in Barack Obama's address at the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Tuesday. The Illinois Democrat did not raise his voice, nor did his facial expression ...

Unless Senator Obama starts playing offense, it will be a repeat of the last 2 elections.

Since the MSM is allowing RNC talking points to control the agenda, Obama has to directly force the issue.

If he is not being instructed by his advisors to attack McCain on his many contradictions and demonstrate that 'experience' has nothing to do with 'expertise,' he will lose.

Where are the clips of 'we will be greeted as liberators,' 'the Iraqi oil will pay for it,' his time as one of 'The Keating 5,' etc.?

Did Democratic consultants learn anything? Americans aren't going to vote based on what is good, or virtuous. They will vote based on the negative emotional appeals that are tossed their way.

Especially if the candidate being vilified is not a white male.

The New McCain
He stood 5’9" with the lift in his shoes
Everyone knew which side he’d choose
Exxon John
Now John couldn’t stand being Left in the lurch
Especially at the interview in the Saddleback Church.
Once John was a man who honored ethical compliance,
But he just couldn’t take staying put in that "cone of Silence"
Exxon John
John used to be a Maverick who was shrewd and keen
But now John McCain has gotten just plain mean
The truth has fallen victim with his new-found persona
But nothing he can do will damage Barack Obama

Maybe because standing there at some debate with McCain all wired up.... being fed the answers into his ear piece isn't Obama's idea of dignity.
Dignity...
using that word and republicans together .....
now that's funny!!!!!

*Must see * Watch O'Reilly takes McCain to the Woodshed for threatening White Christian Male Power. McCain would clearly be a puppet of Fox and the right. Listen to how many times he says "I agree with you to O'reilly and he is bullied into capitulation.

http://www.videoleft.com/video/48/Bill-OReilly-John-McCain-KKK-Moment

With respect to the Mexican immigration issue, the true fear of the right really comes out here. You have got to see Bill O'Reilly force McCain to "put the hood on" and agree with him that America is getting too dark. He challenges McCain to see that America's complexion is changing and that we have to "put a cap" on the dark population threatening the White Christian Power Base (he includes himself in this). This is why the right distrusts McCain and they are trying to whip him into saying he will not allow Mexicans and other dark people to come to America.
By insisting that America needs to continue to be run by White Christian Men, eliminates Lieberman as a candidate if McCain hopes to get support from the right. This is an amazing video that must be seen and shared with the Latino community that thinks McCain has their back. He will flip-flop and sell them out as quickly as he does here in this "woodshed" conversation with O'Reily

Obama will win!!! AND HE WILL PROVE THAT YOU CAN DO IT WITH CLASS...
McCain said that he wanted a respectful campaign, but he didn't have the guts to do it. Instead, McCain has hired the Bush people hoping for the same victory. Americans have seen what the Bush people can deliver. Big talk, talk, talk. Americans have seen the Bush results. McSame offers the same results. Meanwhile, America is being sold off. Americans are making less money, but working HARDER. Americans are losing their homes. Americans are losing their health care. The list goes on and on. OBAMA 2008 to take back properity for America.

Here we have the Democrat Party's presidential nominee, telling a convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars that he loves his country. There must be some doubt in some people's minds if the Democrat Party's presidential nominee has to go to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention and assure them that he loves his country, pleading with people to believe that he loves his country. If the Democrat Party's presidential nominee has to say that he loves his country, then there might be some question, and it's not 'cause of anything McCain said. McCain's not the only bright light in the room here who's figured out that Obama and the Democrat Party want defeat in Iraq. They've been hoping for it, and they own it. Challenge the idea that people can't disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism. I'll challenge your patriotism. When you actively seek the defeat of the the United States of America in Iraq, what are you doing? I wonder if Obama -- told the Veterans of Foreign Wars that America isn't the country that it used to be and that's why he is running for president, because our country is not what it used to be. Like he said in Berlin, and like he said to the seven-year-old kid that asked him why he wanted to be president. I wonder if he said that to the VFW. Don't think so. He had to assure them first that he loves the country.

Stop being an idiot. America the beautiful voted for George Bush twice. Anyone who was against Mr. Bush's Iraq war was considered unpatriotic. Those who took us into war were truly unpatriotic - THAT INCLUDES YOU - how dare you want to fight in a country that doesn't want us there. How dare you want our youth to be killed and maned in a country that wants us to leave because we had no right to be there in the first place.

How about this - no matter how old you are YOU SHOULD ENLIST AND FIGHT FOR THE IRAQ PEOPLE - get a two week vacation and fight for the next hundred years.

As far as people thinking that Barack is a celebrity in other countries - that's not it - the world is saying they still look up to America and that they haven't turned their backs on us.

Stop getting it twisted and wake the H&ll up. UVYMOPKQ

The point is not even whether you believe the tripe you just posted. The point is that there are people in this country, whether they believe the lies or not, willing to post that tripe and worse. It matters not whether you are ignorant, complicit or both. You are un-American. The actions of Bush and the mutterings of McCain have cost this country honor, security, lives and treasure. In your support of Bush, McCain, Cheney and the other criminals, you, also, have cost this country honor, secruity, lives and treasure. The lot of you are dishonorable, egotistical, hypocritical, borderline treasonous cretins. Anyone with an ounce of character acting this way against their country would leave in disgrace. America, clean it up or leave it.

Obama always starts out by saying, "If you want to have a debate...." but then he never does debate! How many offers/challenges to a debate has he refused/ignored? Why doesn't he debate McCain??? He must not let his dismal performance at Saddleback linger in the minds of the electorate. Pro-Obama backers will support him no matter what, it's the moderates, middle of the roaders that are waiting to see what he's got when he's not talking from a teleprompter. Time is running out and I'm worried for him.....

i think he is waiting till after the convention to start the debates. if you do to many debates they just get old, stuff like that needs to wait till closer to the election when it will have more of a impact

and no, time is not running out, the convention and the general has not even started yet...patients daniel son

Reality still alludes MSM. They keep asking the same questions about Obama and no questions about Senator McSame. Why isn't Obama ahead by more? Why is Obama doing wrong? Why doesn't Obama address this and that. I was literally Yelling at the TV yesterday during "Hardball". Obama keeps doing the right things and the press is still covering it like like a college freshman journalist course.

CNN today - "Situation in Georgia causing problem for Democrats". Then they go into the same old polls about John McCain and national security. Consistently failing to mention that there a Republican in the White House right now. GW Bush. John McSame and GW have same Foreign policy platform. John McSame parrots GW in every instance. I will listen to Petraus. Yada Yada. Barack is not just campaigning against John McSame. He's campaigning against MSM. John McSame has shunned the media and they are still fawning over him. I'm depressed. I will do my part and vote for Obama in Nov. but that's all I can do.

"It's curious to see how this method of campaigning, which was effective in the primary campaign, will play out in the general."

I don't think this is a "method of campaigning." This is who and what Obama is and who he has always been. He cannot do it any other way. He is asking all of us to embrace this new high road in our politics. He is succeeding as more and more of America wakes up. It is also up to us, the electorate, to expose and pushback the smears.

As Obama said at the end of the Warren fiasco, " Things will work out. We will get the President we need."

Obama winning in November has far less to do with fighting and far more to do with the American electorate choosing to be duped....again

The only electorate that are choosing to be duped are the 28 percent that still blindly support Bush via Hannity and O'reilly, and some elderly that say, "I'm a Rep, I've always been a Rep, I'm not gonna change now, by jove! The rest are in O's camp.

Obama's positon makes McCain appear desperate, pathetic and small. That he would accord his opponent the benfit of the doubt about his best intentions, and only ask the same for himself is certainly the high road.
